Illinois State, Missouri State Advance to MVC Title Game

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The two top seeds will meet in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship title match Sunday, as No. 1 Illinois State defeated Evansville 6-0 and No. 2 Missouri State defeated Northern Iowa 2-1 in the semifinal matches Friday at the Cooper Family Soccer Plex.

Illinois State’s 6-0 shutout set a State Farm MVC Championship semifinal record for goals, the previous record set by Creighton in last year’s semifinal versus Evansville. 2011 MVC Player of the Year, Rachel Tejada scored her twentieth goal of the season in the fifty-first minute, tying the MVC single-season record. Tejada now holds the record along with Sandy Jackubczak of Evansville (1996), Tracie Strother of Eastern Illinois (1996), and Annie Wayland of Illinois State (2000).

Host Missouri State defeated Northern Iowa 2-1 in a close overtime match. A Missouri State goal by Tiffany Laughlin clinched the victory for the Bears. Missouri State will return to the championship game for the second year in a row and will compete for the Valley’s automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.

The State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship match will kick-off on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1:06pm at the Cooper Family Soccer Plex. The game will be broadcasted live on the Missouri Valley Conference Television Network.
