The Valley's Defensive Player of the Year, Danielle Oswald, chose the perfect time to score her first goal of the season, as the all-conference performer found the back of the net with a 25-yard blast in overtime of the first semifinal game at the 2006 State Farm MVC Women's Soccer Championship. The win for the Bulldogs put them in the soccer final slated for Sunday, Nov. 5, and ended Missouri State's season at 10-9-2.
The game was scoreless through regulartion before Oswald scored in the 94th minute (94:16). Elise Rau, also a first-team all-conference athlete, assisted on the goal. Drake improves to 11-5-2 on the season. The Bulldogs will face the winner of the second semifinal match, currently underway at Morrison Stadium, between Evansville and Creighton.
Sinead Brown led the Bulldogs with eight shots while Melissa Nelson had two shots on goal for DU. Caroline Rooker had two shots on goal for the Bears while the edge on shots went to Drake, 22-15.
