MVC Announces Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams

ST. LOUIS - Illinois State's Jamie Russell, UNI's Jacqui Kalin and Wichita State's Jessica Diamond each repeat as first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference selections, with Kalin earning her third honor and Russell and Diamond each earning their second consecutive selection. They headline a list of six players named to the all-conference first-team unit, the league office announced Wednesday.

Joining the three repeat selections on the first team are two Bluejays, in junior Sarah Nelson and freshman Marissa Janning, and one more Shocker, sophomore Alex Harden. Nelson is a two-time all-MVC selection after earning honorable mentions accolades as a sophomore, while Harden was a member of the league's All-Freshman team a season ago.

Bradley's Katie Yohn highlights the second team, earning all-conference honors for the third consecutive season. She is joined by Drake's Kyndal Clark, an all-freshman team honoree a season ago, and first-time selections Samantha Heck of Evansville, Janae Smith of Illinois State and Anna Munn of Indiana State.

Players from five different schools land spots on the guard-heavy MVC All-Defensive Team, including repeat selection Jamie Russell of Illinois State. Nelson, Clark, Indiana State’s Taylor Whitley and Harden join Russell as first-time honorees.

Five schools are also represented on the MVC All-Freshman Team. Already a first-team selection, Creighton’s Marissa Janning is joined by Indiana State's Marina Laramie, Missouri State's Tyonna Snow, UNI's Hannah Schonhardt and Southern Illinois' Rishonda Napier on the five person rookie team.

Missouri Valley Conference specialty awards for Player, Newcomer, Freshman and Defensive Player of the Year will be announced, in addition to the league’s Coach of the Year, at an awards ceremony in between Games 1 and 2 of the MVC Tournament on Thursday, March 14, at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
