Women's Basketball Weekly Notebook (Nov. 27)
Tuesday, November 27, 2012

To date, MVC teams have eight wins against teams that participated in either the NCAA, WNIT or WBI postseason events in 2012. The eight wins over postseason teams in the season’s first two weeks is nearly half of the league total of 18 postseason wins last season. The Valley has a chance at seven more wins over postseason teams in matchups this week.

Captain of the Mid-Majors
In the most recent CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Top-25 poll (Nov. 20), the Missouri Valley Conference is one of two leagues to have at least two teams mentioned in the top-20.  Missouri State (14) and Creighton (17) are listed among the top-20 “mid-major” institutions.

Majority Rules
In addition to having two league teams in the Nov. 20 edition of the CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Top-25 poll, an additional two conference schools are listed in the “Others Receiving Votes” category - Wichita State (32) and Illinois State (11) - for a total of four MVC schools recognized.

Against the Field
The MVC holds a winning record against seven leagues in non-conference play (ACC, Big Sky, Big South, Conference USA, Horizon, Ohio Valley, Summit, Sun Belt and WAC) and at least a .500 mark against another three leagues (Big West, Horizon and Mid-American).

Can’t Hang
The MVC holds an unblemished record in non-conference action against nine other leagues, including ACC (1-0), Big Sky (1-0) and the WAC (2-0).

Rank and File
So far this season, Missouri Valley Conference schools have yet to knock off a ranked opponent, combining for a 0-3 mark against top-25 teams. The last time a league school took down a ranked opponent was in 2009, when Drake topped No. 24 Iowa State, 78-75, on Nov. 22, 2009. The Valley has two chances against ranked opponents this week, as Bulldogs square off with the 24th-ranked Cyclones tonight in Ames, while Evansville makes the trip to No. 15 Ohio State on Saturday.

Topping Postseason Teams
To date, MVC teams have eight wins against teams that participated in either the NCAA, WNIT or WBI postseason events in 2012. The eight wins over postseason teams in the season’s first two weeks is nearly half of the league total of 18 postseason wins last season. The Valley has a chance at seven more wins over postseason teams in matchups this week.

Objects in the Rearview Mirror
The Valley’s 22-28 non-conference record is a bit deceiving with over 40-percent (12) of those defeats coming at the hands of five BCS conferences – the Big East, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC – leagues with composite winning percentages above .774.
