Fresh off their first trip to the postseason in four years, the Missouri State Lady Bears will kick off the 2010-11 basketball season with their fourth appearance in the Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament. The Lady Bears will host Lamar, which finished 26-8 last season after its first Southland Tournament title in history and first NCAA Tournament appearance, on Friday, November 12, at 6:05 p.m. at JQH Arena in Springfield.

Indiana State women's basketball player Kelsey Luna has been selected as an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winner, one of the NCAA's most prestigious academic honors, it was announced Thursday. Luna was one of 58 student-athletes across all NCAA (Divisions I, II and III) winter sports and one of 29 female student-athletes to claim the $7,500 scholarship. NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships reward student-athletes for their athletic and academic achievements, as well as campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership.

After leading the Missouri State Lady Bears to their best finish in four years in 2009-10, head women's basketball coach Nyla Milleson has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension. The Missouri State University Board of Governors approved the extension to the third-year head coach's employment agreement, which will now run through the 2014-15 season.

Illinois State defeated Kansas by a score of 71-51 in the third round of the WNIT at Redbird Arena, dishing out a dose of revenge, as KU eliminated the Redbirds from the WNIT last season in the semifinals in Lawrence, Kan. Illinois State defended its home court and picked up its first win against the Jayhawks in five tries. The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team could not keep pace with No. 1 seeded Nebraska, falling to the Huskers 83-44 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Wichita State fell behind early and held Memphis scoreless for the final 5:15 of the first half, but it wasn't enough as the Shockers fell, 74-58, Sunday afternoon inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The loss ends one of the most successful seasons in Shocker history. WSU's 18 wins is the most since the 1999-00 team won 20. In addition, the Shockers came away with their first postseason win last Thursday and earlier in the season set a school record for home wins with 14.

ATLANTA - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its winners for the 2008-09 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. This award, given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, awards teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the entire season based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.
