WBB: Illinois State, Indiana State Post Road Wins; Tied for MVC Lead

Illinois State received double-doubles from Kristi Cirone and Shala Jackson and raced to a 14-point halftime lead and never looked back, topping Bradley 74-58.  The Redbirds shot 54.5 percent in the first half, including four threes.   Indiana State forced 15 first half UNI turnovers and scored 19 points off turnovers for the game in a 66-59 win in Cedar Falls.  The Sycamores put four players in double-figures, led by Kelsey Luna’s 20.

EAST PEORIA, Ill. – On the day she was named a candidate for one of the most prestigious awards in women’s college basketball, Kristi Cirone lived up to the billing with a double-double to lead Illinois State (16-4, 7-1 MVC) over Bradley (13-6, 4-4 MVC), 74-58, at Illinois Central College’s Ramsey Gymnasium.   Cirone recorded her fourth-career double-double with 25 points and a career-high 12 assists. It was her 11th 20-point game of the season and her ninth in the last 12 games. Cirone was 3-for-4 from three-point range and moved into a tie with Jenny Schmidt for the ISU all-time lead with 205 career triples.

 

Indiana State 66, UNI 59

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa  – Indiana State led from wire-to-wire to earn a 66-59 Missouri Valley Conference victory over Northern Iowa in front of 549 fans at the McLeod Center. The win was the first for the Sycamores at UNI since the Panthers moved over from the West Gym three seasons ago.  ISU remained in a tie for first place to improve to 11-8, 7-1 MVC while UNI fell to 6-12, 4-4 MVC.
