Former Drake Standout Bauman to have Basketball Jersey Retired
Former Drake women's basketball standout Lorri Bauman will have her jersey retired during halftime of the Drake-Iowa State women's basketball game this Sunday at the Drake Knapp Center. Bauman, a native of Des Moines who attended East High School, was the first woman in NCAA history to reach the 3,000 career point plateau. She also set an NCAA Tournament record that still stands, scoring 50 points in the 1982 NCAA West Regional final against Maryland. TIp off for the game is at 2:07 p.m. The annual Drake Alumni Women's basketball game will be held at 11 a.m. Bauman, who played at Drake from 1980-84, is the school's all-time scoring leader with 3,115 points and holds four of the top six single-season scoring marks in school history. She still owns the Missouri Valley Conference single-game scoring record of 58 points against Missouri State Jan. 6, 1984. Bauman, who now resides in Gillette Wyo., still owns Drake single-game records for free throws made (22 vs. Northern Illinois, Nov. 26, 1982), field goals made (27 vs. Missouri State, Jan. 6, 1984) During her career, the Bulldogs posted a combined 96-29 record while advancing to the 1982 and 1984 NCAA Tournaments as well as the 1981 WNIT.
