Valley Track and Field Athletes competed across the nation this week and posted some of the best results of the season.

Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Greggmar Smith, Jr., Indiana State, Bridgetown, Barbados

Four of the top 10 hurdlers in the nation were on hand for the Tyson Invite 60 meter hurdle race this past weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., with Indiana State junior Greggmar Swift running a personal best 7.68 seconds in the finals to finish third. Swift entered the weekend as the fourth ranked hurdler in the nation and was edged out in close finish by Arkansas senior Caleb Cross (third in nation) who won in 7.65 seconds and Texas senior Keirson Stewart (fifth in the nation) who was second in 7.66 seconds. Swift won his preliminary heat in 7.85 and his semifinal heat with a time of 7.72 seconds. Swift currently leads the Valley in the event and ranks fifth in the nation after this weekend’s action.

Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton, Sr., Wichita State, Kapenguria, Kenya

Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton shattered her own Missouri Valley Conference record in the indoor 5,000m run and posted the fifth fastest time in NCAA history at the Iowa State Classic. With a time of 15:25.47, Tuliamuk-Bolton beat her previous indoor record by over ten seconds (15:36.53). Her effort in the race earned her second place at the meet, behind the defending national champion. Tuliamuk- Bolton now owns the second best time nationally. The eight time Missouri Valley Conference Champion holds four conference records in track & field. Her record-breaking 5k tops the next best time in the Valley by over 1:15. With a spot at the national meet likely clinched, Tuliamuk-Bolton will turn her attention to the MVC Indoor Championships where she looks to repeat as MVC Champion in the 3,000m and 5,000m.

Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

Brandon Pounds, Sr., Indiana State, Indianapolis, Ind.

Indiana State senior Brandon Pounds was the dominate thrower at the Tyson Invitational this past weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., winning the men’s weight throw with a distance of 69-feet-3.5-inches (21.12 meters) which was almost seven feet better than Missouri senior Jacob Bullinger who was second at 62-feet-6.5-inches (19.06 meters). The field also included Oklahoma State sophomore Nick Miller who ranks fourth in the nation and finished fourth at the Invite. Pounds continues to lead the Valley and the nation in the weight throw.

Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Felisha Johnson, Sr., Indiana State, Indianapolis, Ind.

The top two shot putters in the nation went head-to-head at the Tyson Invitational Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark., with Indiana State senior Felisha Johnson, ranked second in the nation, finishing second to top-ranked Tia Brooks of Oklahoma. Johnson’s best throw went 55-feet-11.25-inches (17.06 meters). Brooks won with a throw of 58-feet-8-inches (17.88 meters). Johnson still leads the Valley in both the weight throw and shot put while leading the nation in the weight throw and still second in the shot put. The senior also competed in the weight throw at Tyson but fouled on each of her first three attempts.
