2011 State Farm MVC Indoor Track & Field Championship

The Wichita State Shockers set a new Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship record by scoring 186 points en route to their second-straight title.  On the men's side, leading by a half-point heading into the final event of the championship, Indiana State out-ran the field to capture its first indoor men's title.

Event notes:

The Wichita State women's team total of 186 points established a new meet record (previously held by Illinois State, 166, 1984 in Cedar Falls, Iowa).

The men's team margin of victory for Indiana State (4.5 points) was the lowest margin since 1991 (also 4.5 points) and the second-lowest in event history (1975, tie).

Pentathlon

60m Hurdles

Results

UNI's Olimpia Nowak started off the 2011 Indoor Championship strong finishing first in the 60m Hurdles with her time of 8.68.  Wichita State's Tanya Friesen came in second (8.75) and UNI's Lindsay Gierke took third (8.84).

Heptathlon 60m

Results

Wichita State claimed the top-four spots in the 60-meter dash.  Aaron Young crossed in 6.99 with Austin Bahner right behind him in 7.04.  Shocker teammate Krzysztof Slupkowski came in third (7.16).

Pentathlon 

High Jump

Results

Sarah Gilbert of Wichita State took the women's high jump portion of the Pentathlon with a jump of 1.75m.  Olimpia Nowak of Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois Malaikah Love tied for second-place (1.66m).

Results

For the second event in a row, Wichita State took the top-four spots in the Heptathlon.  Austin Bahner came in first in the men's long jump (7.35m).  Jordan Zerr and Krzysztof Slupkowski took second (6.89m) and third (6.55m), respectively.

Krzyszstof Slupkowski of Wichita State came away with first-place in the shot put portion of the Heptathlon (14.20m) earning 741 points.  Ben Lindaman of Northern Iowa took second (12.97m) and Wichita State's Aaron Young came in third (12.87m).

Southern Illinois' Malaikah Love took the top spot in the women's pentathlon shot put with a throw of 12.38m, good for 686 points. UNI's Olimpia Nowak and Johanna Smith recorded markes of 11.21m and 10.96m, respectively, to take second and third.

Results

Indiana State's Robert Webb scored 822 points and cleared 2.02m to take the top spot in the men's heptathlon high jump.  Ryan Sidwell of Southern Illinois took second with a jump of 1.96m (767 points) ahead of four Wichita State athletes.

Women's Weight Throw

Results

Southern Illinois' Jeneva McCall posted the NCAA's 4th-best mark and repeated as MVC champion in front of an ultra-competitive field that saw five throwers surpass 20 meters. McCall (22.36m) outdistanced Indiana State's Felisha Johnson (22.30m) and teammate Gwen Berry (22.14m) for the title.

Results

Malaikah Love again grabbed an event win in the pentathlon, posting a 5.81m leap in the long jump.  UNI's Olimpia Nowak took second place (5.69m) and Wichita State's Witney Sorell was third (5.39m).

Results

UNI's Olimpia Nowak was more than two seconds better than the field in the final event of the women's pentathlon, crossing the line in 2:20.45 to grab 817 points.  Illinois State's Jenna Combs (2:22.58) and Southern Illinois' Malaikah Love (2:23.07) finished second and third, respectively. 

Pentathlon - Final Results

Malaikah Love of Southern Illinois posted the Valley's best score and the 7th-best tally in the nation with 3997 points to claim her first MVC Indoor Championship title in the women's pentathlon.  Two-time MVC Indoor champion, Olimpia Nowak of UNI, took second place with 3966 points -- her best total of the season.  Sarah Gilbert of Wichita State posted her best score of the year (3609) to take third.
Women's 800m - Prelim Results UNI's Holli Hosch is the top qualifier in the women's 800m run, clocking a 2:11.61 out of heat one.  Hosch will be joined in the final by heat winners Mary Goldkamp of Bradley and Nicole Thate of Missouri State, along with Jilana Kerkman of Illinois State, Jennifer Taylor of Wichita State, Kara McCartney of Drake, Leeann Michl of Indiana State and Clarissa LaFlora of Drake.
Men's 800m - Prelim Results UNI runners Aaron Stockstell and Brady Fritz were heat winners and are among eight to advance to the men's 800-meter final.  Drake's Matt Jurysta and Illinois State's Matthew Smoody advanced as top-two heat finishers along with Brad Adams of Indiana State, Jake Wike of Wichita State, Charles Lapham of Drake and Lucas Cherry of Southern Illinois. 
Women's 400m - Prelim Results
Sade Sealy of Illinois State was the top qualifier in the women's 400m with a time of 56.1.  Sealy will be joined in the final by heat winners Ari Curtis of Drake, Beth Hamling of Drake, Sam Cameron of UNI and Michaela Brungardt of UNI.  Also advancing to the final are Alia McAfee of Illinois State, Shelby Higginbottom of Indiana State and Kiara Moore of Wichita State.
Men's 400m - Prelim Results 
UNI's Josh Madsen posted the top qualifying time in the men's 400m, crossing the line in 49.37.  Madsen is joined by heat winners Fabian Norgrove of Illinois state, Jon DeGrave of Drake and Keenan Johnson of Indiana State. Others advancing to the final include Bryan Collins of UNI, Beau Dielschneider of UNI and Max Tuttle of indiana State. 
Men's Pole Vault 
Results
UNI's Sam Kranz cleared 17-1 for a second-straight year at the MVC Indoor Championship and repeated as its champion, marking the seventh-consecutive season that a UNI athlete has won the event. Southern Illinois' Tim Robberstad took second, clearing 16-1.25 and Andrew LaMaster of Indiana State was third, also clearing the 16-1.25 bar.

Men's Weight Throw

Results

J.C. Lambert of Southern Illinois repeated as champion in the men's weight throw with a toss of 68-2.50, nearly eight feet clear of the competition. Jordan Williams of UNI claimed second with a throw of 60-6, and Collin Otto of Southern Illinois earned third-place points with his toss of 60-2.50.
Women's 60m Dash - Semifinal Results 
Top-two heat Yomeaqua Brents of Illinois State, Tia Harvey of Illinois State, Audacia Moore of Wichita State and Shamoya Pruitt of Wichita State advanced to the women's 60m final, along with Pernell Joseph of Missouri State, Lindsay Gierke of UNI, Alyx Dull of Missouri State and La'Taish Brown of Wichita State.
Men's 60m Dash - Semifinal Results 
UNI's Carlos Anderson, Jarred Herring and Tim Johnson were joined by Indiana State's Daryl Truitt as heat winners in the men's 60m dash and will advance to the final.  Other finalists are Kayode Adegoke of Illinois State, Derek Kramer of UNI, Wilmot Wellington of UNI and Benjamin Sparkman of Illinois State.

The three heat winners -- Meredith Hayes of Southern Illinois, Olimpia Nowak of UNI and Samantha Hallman of Wichita State -- are joined in the final by Cassie Craig of Wichita State, Marissa Smith of Drake, Tanya Friesen of Wichita State, Sarah Yeager of Drake and Lindsay Gierke of UNI.
Men's 60m Hurdles - Prelim Results
Heat winners Todd McKown of Wichita State, Lawson Montgomery of Wichita State and Michael Roberts of Indiana State will be joined in the final by Greggmar Smith of Indiana State, Cory Beenken of Wichita State, Kendric Smith of Illinois State, Chris Henely of UNI and Cooper Hanning of Wichita State.
Women's 3000m - Final Results Wichita State's Aliphine Tuliamuk and Tonya Nero ran side-by-side to take the top two places in the women's 3,000m run.  Tuliamuk's winning time of 9:38.26 was a tick ahead of Nero's 9:39.88.  Illinois State's Aisha Praught crossed the line in third.
Men's 3000m - Final 

Results

Southern Illinois' Jeff Schirmer took the lead with three laps remaining and claimed his third MVC 3,000m title in a time of 8:24.14.  Daniel Dunbar made it a Saluki 1-2 sweep, crossing the line in 8:27.17.  Indiana State's Dustin Betz took third.
Men's Long Jump Results  Wichita State's Austin Bahner set the top MVC mark of the season in claiming his first conference long jump title.  His jump of 24-8.50 was just under three inches ahead of Indiana State's Nigel Jolly (24-5.75).  Brandon Childs of Wichita State claimed third (24-2.50).
Women's Long Jump Results  La'Taish Brown of Wichita State surpassed the NCAA automatic qualifying mark with her title-winning leap of 6.40 meters in the women's long jump.  The jump is the 5th-best in the NCAA this year. Malaikah Love of Southern Illinois took second and Audacia Moore of Wichita State claimed third.

Women's 200m - Prelim Results 

Wichita State's Audacia Moore and teammate Samantha Hallman are the top two qualifiers in the women's 200m dash.  Also advancing to the final are Alia McAfee and Sade Sealy of Illinois State, Shamoya Pruitt of Wichita State, Kandise Thompson of Southern Illinois, Stacia Weatherford of Indiana State and Tia Harvey of Illinois State.
Men's 200m - Prelim Results  Wichita State's Todd McKown claimed the top qualifying time of 21.76.  Also advancing to the final are Brandon Deloney of Southern Illinois, Jon DeGrave of Drake, Wilmot Wellington of UNI, Dylan Hartnett of Wichita State, Kayode Adegoke of Illinois State, Andrew Stull of Indiana State and Fabian Norgrove of Illinois State.
Women's DMR  Results Illinois State topped the field in the women's distance medley relay by 10 seconds to repeat as MVC Indoor champions.  Indiana State edged Wichita State for second.
Men's DMR

Southern Illinois won its first MVC Indoor DMR since 1985 in a time of 10:04.54, outpacing Illinois State (10:08.17) and UNI (10:08.46).

Heptathlon

60m Hurdles 

Results

Wichita State's Krzysztof Slupkowski ran an 8.39 in the heptathlon 60m hurdles to pick up 886 points to extend his overall event lead over teammate Austin Bahner with two events to go. Totals through five events.

Pole Vault 

Results

Wichita State's Aaron Young cleared 4.74m (15-7) to add 834 points to his heptathlon total.  UNI's Daniel Gooris topped 4.65m (804 points) and Dexter Childress of Indiana State cleared 4.55m.

Women's Triple Jump Results

Southern Illinois' Malaikah Love claimed the women's triple jump with the 30th-best effort in the nation this year, measuring 12.57m (41-3) to win by more than a foot.  Missouri State's Kimsue Grant and Wichita State's Audacia Moore rounded out the top three.
Women's Shot Put

Southern Illinois' Geneva McCall won her second-straight MVC Indoor Championship title in the women's shot put with the 6th-best throw in the NCAA this season, 17.22m.  Illinois State's Brittany Smith claimed second (16.25m) and Southern Illinois' Gwen Berry was third (16.25m).
Men's High Jump 

Results 

Indiana State's Major Clay cleared the bar at 2.21m (7-3) to win his second-straight indoor conference title.  The jump was the 10th-best in the NCAA this season.  Wichita State's Brandon Childs and UNI's Travis Lauer placed second and third, respectively.

Heptathlon 1,000m  

Results

Jordan Zerr of Wichita State ran the 1000m in 2:43.41 to add 836 points to his total in the men's heptathlon. Indiana State's Dexter Childress clocked in a 2:46.05 (807 points) and Wichita State's Justin Hickey took third in 2:47.97.
Heptathlon - Final 

Results 

Krzysztof Slupkowski of Wichita State totaled 5266 points to claim his first MVC heptathlon championship.  The Shockers swept the top four positions in the event, with Jordan Zerr, Aaron Young and Austin Bahner taking second through fourth, respectively.
Women's Mile 

Results

Wichita State's Tanya Nero fought off a stiff challenge from Illinois State's Aisha Praught and Bradley's Mary Goldkamp to win her second-straight MVC Indoor mile title. Nero pulled away over the final 150m to win in a time of 4:54.92.

Men's Mile Results

Southern Illinois' Jeff Schirmer repeated as the MVC Indoor mile champion, clocking in at 4:12.25 and using a late kick to top teammate Zach Dahleen and UNI's Brady Fritz.
Women's Pole Vault 

Results

Cassie Craig of Wichita State was the only athlete to clear the bar at 3.92 meters to claim her first MVC pole vault title.  Indiana State athletes Richelle Kimble and Nicole Hope took second and third place, respectively. 
Women's 400m - Final

Results 

Sade Sealy of Illinois State won here second-consecutive indoor 400m title, winning the timed final in a time of 55.78, just ahead of Drake's Ari Curtis (55.99) and Drake's Beth Hamling (56.07).
Men's 400m - Final 

Results 

Jon DeGrave of Drake closed strong and helf off UNI's Josh Madsen to win the men's 400m dash with a time of 48.57.  Illinois State's Fabian Norgrove clamied third place.
Women's 60m - Final 

Results

Audacia Moore of Wichita State crossed the line in 7.44 seconds to claim the women's 60m dash title. Illinois State teammates Yomeaqua Brents and Tia Harvey earned second and third place, respectively. 
Men's 60m - Final 

Results 

Carlos Anderson of UNI edged the defending 60m champion, Daryl Truitt of Indiana State, by .03 seconds to win the men's final.  Jarred Herring of UNI finished in 6.86 seconds for third place.
Women's 60m Hurdles - Final 

Results

Meredith Hayes of Southern Illinois clocked an 8.4 second 60m hurdle time to take her third straight MVC Indoor title.  Marissa Smith of Drake and Wichita State's Samantha Hallman rounded out the top three. 
Women's High Jump 

Results

Amanda Albrecht of Illinois State cleared the bar at 1.73m to top Drake's Tyse Samani (1.7m) in the women's high jump.  J'Lynn Ledesma of Wichita State was one of five to clear 1.67m on her way to a third-place finish.
Men's Shot Put

Results  

UNI's Justin Romero posted a 17.87m throw to win the men's shot put title.  Southern Illinois' J.C. Lambert (17.56m) placed second and Curtis Jensen of Illinois State was third (17.38m).
Men's Triple Jump 

Results 

Ernest Rollins of Indiana State posted a 15.04m (49-04.25) effort to win the men's triple jump. Southern Illinois' Maxim Bakana (14.96m) and Tyler Knight of Illinois State (14.85m) rounded out the top three.
Men's 60m Hurdles - Final Results Wichita State's Todd McKown was a stride better than the field in the men's 60m hurdles, winning his second-straight indoor championship in 7.89 seconds. Indiana State's Michael Roberts was second (7.97) and Wichita State's Lawson Montgomery finished third (8.01).
Women's 800m - Final

Results 

Holli Hosch of UNI was the class of the field in the women's 800m, finishing in 2:08.99 to win by more than three seconds. Jennifer Taylor of Wichita State finished second and Leeann Michl of Indiana State finished third. 
Men's 800m - Final

Results 

Matthew Smoody of Illinois State clipped UNI's Aaron Stockstell, 1:52.11 to 1:52.33, to win the men's 800m run.  Indiana State's Brad Adams took third. 
Women's 200m - Final 

Results

Audacia Moore of Wichita State led a Shocker sweep of the top three spots in the women's 200m.  Moore (24.43), Samantha Hallman (24.83) and Shamoya Pruitt (24.98) took top points for WSU.
Men's 200m - Final 

Results

Todd McKown of Wichita State clocked a 21.72 to win the men's 200m dash.  Drake's Jon DeGrave and Wichita State's Dylan Hartnett rounded out the top three.

Women's 5,000m Results 

Aliphine Tuliamuk of Wichita State (16:27.25) and teammate Tonya Nero (16:56.47) took the top two spots in the women's 5,000m run. Southern Illinois' Emily Toennies finished in third. 

Men's 5,000m
Results 

Jeff Schirmer of Southern Illinois won his fourth-straight indoor 5,000m title, edging teammate Daniel Dunbar by .1 seconds at the line and crossing in 14:37.12.  Indiana State's Albaro Escalera finished in third place.
Women's 4x400  

Results

UNI received a strong anchor leg from Sam Cameron and pulled away at the line for a win in the women's 4x400 relay.  Southern Illinois and Indiana State rounded out the top three. 
Men's 4x400 

Results

indiana State's Max Tuttle ran a strong anchor leg to win the men's 4x400 and secure the team championship for the Sycamores (3:18.64).  Illinois State (3:19.22) and Southern Illinois (3:21.20).
