Greggmar Swift of Indiana State has been named this week’s Men’s Track Athlete of the Week while Illinois State’s Sade Sealy receives this week’s Women’s Track Athlete of the Week recognition. Northern Iowa’s Jordan Williams and teammate Traci Harms are named this week’s Valley Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Greggmar Swift, Indiana State, So., Bridgetown, Barbados
Indiana State sophomore Greggmar Swift won his fourth straight 110 meter hurdle event of the outdoor season at the Billy Hayes Invitational Friday at Indiana University with a winning time of 13.86 second which was the third time this season that he has run under 14 seconds in the event. Swift won over Purdue’s Brandon Winters and SIU Edwardsville’s William Lindsey who both ran 14.22 with Winters second by one-thousandth of a second. Swift won the opening heat of the preliminaries with a time of 14.24 to advance to the finals. The Sycamore leads the Valley in the event, ranks 15th on the national performance list and eighth on the NCAA East performance list.

In a final tune-up meet before the 2012 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, junior Sade Sealy ran a career-best and Illinois State record of 53.32 in the 400-meter dash at the Billy Hayes Invitational this past weekend, winning the event by 1.54 seconds. In the process, the 2X defending MVC champion in the 400 reclaimed the top spot in the Valley by four hundredths of a second. If that wasn’t enough, Sealy ran the anchor leg of the 4X100-meter relay, helping the team to a first-place finish with a season-best time of 46.39. (31)

UNI junior Jordan Williams uncorked one of the best discus throws in UNI history to win the Mark Messersmith Invitational on Friday. Williams threw 192-02 (58.57m) – a mark that ranks him No. 9 in the nation this season and No. 2 in program history. Williams leads the rest of the MVC by more than 21 feet in the discus. He also claimed a second-place finish in the shot put on Friday, throwing 60-02.00 (18.34m) to move to No. 23 in the nation and No. 2 on the UNI all-time list in that event.

UNI senior Traci Harms posted a personal-best mark in the hammer throw by nearly five feet to win the event on Friday at the Mark Messersmith Invitational. She threw 190-04 (58.01m) to improve her mark that already ranked No. 2 in school history. Harms is now No. 49 in the nation and No. 32 in the West Region in the hammer throw this season.
