Wichita State’s Lawson Montgomery and Northern Iowa’s Holli Hosch are named this week’s Missouri Valley Conference Track Athletes of the Week. Major Clay of Indiana State and Jeneva McCall of Southern Illinois take home the Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Lawson Montgomery, Wichita State, JR., Bennington, Kan.
Lawson Montgomery was the top Shocker in the men’s 110-meter hurdle competition as the Wichita State University track and field team competed at the KU Relays last weekend. Montgomery ran a 14.30 in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles on Friday, April 22, and then came back with a 14.08 in the finals to move into fifth on the WSU all-time list. Montgomery, who placed second at the meet, ranks amongst the best in the Valley, sitting second in the 110-meter hurdles (behind teammate Todd McKown) and also ranking in the top-15 in the 400-meter hurdles (14th, 55.29). Montgomery also ranks 26th in the NCAA West Region.

Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Major Clay, Indiana State, JR., Springfield, Ill.
Junior Major Clay won his fourth straight title in the high jump at the Pacesetter Invitational Saturday as he established a new personal best by clearing 7’-3.25” (2.22 meters). Clay has cleared the seven-foot mark in his last 14 meets (indoor and outdoor) and 35 of his 38 combined meets during his Indiana State career. Clay ranks seventh in the nation, fifth in the East, and is first in the Missouri Valley Conference this outdoor season.

Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Holli Hosch, UNI, SR., Walker, Iowa
UNI senior Holli Hosch won the 800m for the second consecutive year at the Musco Twilight in Iowa City, this time taking the title in 2:10.21. Hosch set the meet and facility records in the event at last year's Musco Twilight, and took this year’s title by a one-second margin over competitors from Iowa, Iowa State and Minnesota, among other schools. Hosch leads the MVC and is ranked No. 31 in the West Region in the event.

Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jeneva McCall, Southern Illinois, JR., Dolton, Ill.
McCall took her third throw event sweep of the year Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt Invitational, as she won the shot put, hammer throw and discus in convincing fashion. The junior began competition Friday with a personal best mark of 54-05.25 in the shot put, which topped teammate Gwen Berry by just over one foot. She continued her dominance on Saturday with a win in the discus, where her throw of 179-03 topped teammate Kim Fortney by 18 feet. McCall would follow that up with a career best mark of 223-04 in the hammer throw, as she led the Saluki charge that placed first through fifth in the event.
