Pentathlon

60m Hurdles

Results

Wichita State’s Salena Burns edged out teammate Cassie Craig for the best time in the 60m hurdles, the first event of the championship and of the indoor pentathlon.  Burns clocked in at 8.94 seconds, clipping Craig by 0.06 in the timed section finals.

Heptathlon 60m

Results

 

Wichita State’s Chris Dickman ran 7.01 in the heptathlon 60m, registering the top time just ahead of UNI’s Mat Clark (7.12) to grab the early lead in the event.  Wichita State’s Justin Taylor (7.15) was third.

Results

UNI teammates Dani Stipe and Rachel VanderHolt cleared 1.65m (5’ 5”) to win the high jump in the pentathlon, also moving into the top two positions in the pentathlon after two events.  Illinois State’s Morgan Schaefer and UNI’s Alyssa Fischer and Lauren Lindaman tied for third place in the high jump, clearing 1.62m (5’ 3.75”).

Long Jump

Results

UNI’s Mat Clark leapt into the lead after two events in the men’s heptathlon, with a career-best 7.29m (23’ 11”) long jump, outdistancing teammate Daniel Gooris (7.05m).  Wichita State’s Chris Dickman was the only other athlete over the seven meter mark (7.03m).

Shot Put 

Results

Justin Taylor of Wichita State won the men’s shot put with a throw of 13.39m and was the only competitor over the 13-meter mark, as he claimed his first individual title in the event.  Daniel Gooris of UNI was the runner-up with a toss of 12.80m, while UNI’s Troy Bacon finished third (12.28m).

Wichita State took the top two spots in the pentathlon’s shot put event, as Cassie Craig (11.39m) and Stephanie Hammond (10.73) finished first and second, respectively.  Rachel VanderHolt of UNI took third with her 10.59m toss.

UNI’s Dani Stipe held onto the top position in the pentathlon with a win in the long jump portion, recording a mark of 5.83m.  Panther teammate Alyssa Fischer was second (5.72m), while Illinois State’s Morgan Schaefer finished third (5.34m).

Mat Clark of UNI increased his lead in the heptathlon after clearing 1.97m (6’ 5.50”) in the men’s high jump portion of the event.  UNI’s Daniel Gooris and Wichita State’s Justin Taylor tied for second, clearing 1.94m (6’ 4.25”)

Results

Drake’s Ari Curtis had a late burst to overtake UNI’s Dani Stipe in the 800-meter pentathlon event, clocking in at 2:24.16 and 2:24.62, respectively.  Indiana State’s Rachel Posey finished third in 2:25.02.

Pentathlon - Final Results

UNI’s Dani Stipe set personal bests in three pentathlon events (high jump, shot put and 800-meter) and improved her NCAA provisional standard in the event, recording 3,805 total points. Alyssa Fischer of UNI finished second with a season-best 3,571 points, while Morgan Schaefer of Illinois State was third (3,521 points).  The Panthers slated four of the top five positions in the pentathlon, earning 27 points for the event.

Women’s Weight Throw

Results

Southern Illinois swept the top three spots in the 20-pound weight throw, registering three NCAA provisional marks, tallying 31 total points in the event.  Sophomore Gwen Berry improved her NCAA provisional qualifying standard, tossing 19.61m (64’ 4”).  Sasha Leeth was the runner-up with a toss of 18.96m (62 2.50”), while Rickael Roach took third with a throw of 18.91m (62’ 0.50”). 

 

Men’s Weight Throw

Results

Indiana State freshman Brandon Pounds took home top honors in the men’s 35-pound weight throw, tossing 18.54 (60’ 10”).  Southern Illinois junior Joe Paradiso finished second (18.50m, 60’ 8.50”), while Saluki teammate Ryan Shumaker was third (18.36m, 60’ 3”).
Women's Long Jump Results

Southern Illinois’ Bianca Stuart became the fourth, four-time indoor MVC women’s long jump champion with a finals leap of 6.56m, which currently ranks third on the NCAA Descending Order List.  Stuart's leap is also a new Valley all-time and championship meet record.  La’Taish Brown of Wichita State was the runner up at 6.09m, while Southern Illinois’ Malaikah Love finished third with a 5.96m effort.

Men's Long Jump Results Defending champion Marcus Gaines of Drake notched a repeat performance in the men’s long jump with a season-best leap of 7.47m.  Wichita State's Ian Lindstrom (7.37m) and UNI’s Rozle Bucalo (7.27m) finished second and third, respectively.
Men's Pole Vault Results

Sophomore Phil Hanson of UNI won the fifth-consecutive pole vault championship for the Panthers, clearing 5.10m to win the event over teammates Daniel Gooris and Sam Kranz, who each topped 5.00m.

Women’s 5,000m Results

One of the nation’s best 5,000-meter performances this season, Wichita State senior Kellyn Johnson turned in a Missouri Valley Conference all-time and championship meet record in the event, clocking in at 16:11.77.  Her time currently ranks 11th best on the NCAA Descending Order List.  Missouri State’s Pasca Cheruiyot finished second (16:33.50), while Bears’ teammate Terry Phillips was third (17:19.00).  

Men's 5,000m
Results

Defending champion Jeff Schirmer of Southern Illinois turned in a repeat performance in the men’s 5,000-meter, becoming the fifth Valley two-time champion in the event, clocking in at 14:45.73.  Illinois State finished two-three in the event, with sophomore Matt Mroczynski and senior Scott Krapf turning in times of 14:47.28 and 14:50.83, respectively.

Women's DMR  Results Missouri State was spectacular in setting a new Valley all-time and MVC championship record in the women's distance medley relay, clocking in at 11:42.69 with a team of Staci Nelson, Kindra Perkins, Asher Kyger and Pasca Cheruiyot.  The previous record was also set by Missouri State last season (11:43.16).  Drake finished second (11:45.65), while Illinois State was third (11:52.84).
Men's DMR Results In a sprint to the finish line, Drake’s Leyden Tolhurst edged out Southern Illinois’ Jeff Schirmer to win the MVC title in the men's DMR, running a 10:02.83.  Jeffry Grassmeyer, Troy Kimberlin and Brandon Lewis ran the first three legs for Drake.  Southern Illinois finished second (10:03.26), while UNI took third (10:03.40).

Heptathlon

60m Hurdles 

Results

Indiana State’s Anthony Bertoli won the fifth event in the men’s heptathlon, posting a 8.46 in the 60-meter high hurdles.  UNI’s Daniel Gooris finished second (8.59), while current leader Mat Clark of UNI was third (8.61).

Results

Daniel Gooris of UNI cleared 5.00m (16’ 4.75”) in the pole vault, earning 910 points to take over the lead in the men's heptathlon.  Indiana State's Anthony Bertoli was second, over the bar at 4.90m (16’ 0.75”), while Wichita State’s Justin Taylor turned in a season-best clearance of 4.80m (15’ 9”) to finish third.

UNI's Mat Clark took the lead on the final lap to win the 1,000-meter in the heptathlon with a time of 2:42.58.  Chris Dickman of Wichita State finished second (2:46.82), while Shocker teammate Justin Hickey took third (2:47.31).

Women's Triple Jump 
Results

Lauren Martin of Indiana State registered a new Valley all-time and championship meet record, winning the triple jump with a distance of 13.13m (43’ 1”).  Martin improved her NCAA provisional qualifying mark and now ranks 10th on the NCAA best list.  Freshman Malaikah Love of Southern Illinois finished second (12.49m, 40’ 11.75”), while Wichita State’s Erika Kovesi was third (12.27m, 40 3.25”).
Women's Shot Put 

Results

Southern Illinois sophomore Gwen Berry matched her season-best in the women’s shot put with a toss of 15.12m (49; 7.25”), to claim the title.  Illinois State’s Tori Ziegler (14.64m) and Kate Schaake of Wichita State (14.56m) round out the top three.
Men's High Jump 

Results

UNI's Ehi Oamen and Julian Morris cleared 2.15m (7’ 0.50”), taking first and second, respectively, on judge’s decision.  Major Clay of Indiana State finished third, clearing 2.10m (6; 10.75”).
Women's Mile 

Results

Wichita State's Kellyn Johnson earned her second Valley meet record of the weekend, taking the women’s mile title in a time of 4:44.92.  Defending champion Asher Kyger of Missouri State finished second (4:53.70), while Bears’ teammate Terry Phillips took third (4:55.08).

Men's Mile Results

UNI's Thibault Vandenabeele out-kicked Drake’s Leyden Tolhurst on the bell lap of the men's mile to take the title in 4:1488.  Tolhurst clocked in at 4:14.95. Brady Fritz of UNI was third in 4:16.05.

Southern Illinois' Meredith Hayes matched her season-best and NCAA provisional time in the 60-meter hurdles, also breaking the Valley championship record, as she clocked in at 8.42.  Sasha Manuel of Wichita State (8.58) and Terri Counts of Southern Illinois (8.72) round out the top three.
Men's 60m Hurdles - Final Results Chris Allen of Wichita State took home top honors in the 60m HH, clocking a season-best 7.96. Michael Roberts of Indiana State ran 8.15 and Scott Lynn of UNI ran an 8.26 to round out the top three.
Women's 400m - Final 

Results

Leander Ernest of Missouri State became a two-time Valley champion in the women’s 400-meter, finishing first in the finals with a time of 55.19.  Southern Illinois’ Kandise Thompson finished second (55.87), while Illinois State freshman was third with a season-best 56.04.     
Men's 400m - Final 

Results

The Panthers of UNI swept the top three positions in the men’s 400-meter dash, with junior Cory Goos taking home the gold medal (48.31). Senior Ryan Grenko was second (48.62), while junior Dennis Hammel finished third with a season-best time of 48.72.
Women's 60m - Final 

Results

Indiana State’s Jeanne Middleton took home top honors in the women’s 60-meter dash, clocking a season-best time of 7.51.  Yomeaqua Brents of Illinois State (7.58) and Southern Illinois’ Bianca Stuart finished third (7.62), both turning in season-bests.

Results

Jeramie Gray of Indiana State claimed his third-straight MVC men's 60m crown with a season-best winning time of 6.77.  Stevie Warren of Southern Illinois was second (6.93) and Daryl Truitt of Indiana State was third in 6.88.
Women's 800m - Final

Results 

Erica Moore of Indiana State took the women's 800m crown in 2:10.03, topping Southern Illinois’ Toni Whitfield (2:14.22) and Kim Smudde of Illinois State (2:14.94).
Men's 800m - Final

Results 

Tyler Mulder of UNI ran a 1:51.13 and topped the field by over two seconds in the men's 800m, claiming his second consecutive Valley title in the event.  Beau Dielschneider of UNI (1:53.20) was second, followed by Illinois State's John Neisler (1:54.27).
Women's High Jump 

Results

UNI's Rachel VanderHolt and Missouri State’s Mareneika Goffe cleared the bar at 1.75m (5’ 8.75”), with VanderHolt taking the individual championship on the judge’s decision.  Amanda Albrecht of Illinois State finished third (1.69m, 5’ 6.50”).
Men's Shot Put

Results 

Indiana State freshman Brandon Pounds notched his second Valley title (also won the men’s weight throw on Saturday), tossing 17.85m (58’ 6.75”) to win the shot put crown.  Freshman Alex Adams of Illinois State finished second (16.55m, 54’ 3.75”), while Thomas Smith of Southern Illinois was third (16.54m, 54’ 3.25”).
Men's Triple Jump 

Results

Josh Crawford of Wichita State won the meet with a leap of 15.33m (50’ 3.50”).  Maxim Bakana of Southern Illinois was second (14.71m) and Ernest Rollins of Indiana State was third (14.58m).
Women's Pole Vault 

Results

Indiana State’e Kylie Hutson won her second-straight women’s pole vault championship, breaking both the Valley all-time and championship meet records, clearing 4.27m (14’ 0”).  Her vault is currently tied for third on the NCAA Descending Order List this season.  Wichita State’s Brooke Demo took second (4.02m), while Shocker teammates Amy Gifford and Nikki Royer tied for third (3.64m).  
Women's 200m - Final 

Results

Wichita State freshman Brittany Hemphill won the gold medal in the women’s 200-meter dash, clocking a 24.74 in the final.  Missouri State’s Leander Ernest was second in 24.99 and Bear teammate Rashida Allen was third in 25.02.
Men's 200m - Final 

Results

Wichita State senior Jared Foley turned in a season-best 21.56 in the men’s 200-meter dash to take home top honors.  Stevie Warren of Southern Illinois finished second (21.84) and freshman Jarred Herring of UNI was third (22.03).
Women's 3000m - Final Results Kellyn Johnson of Wichita State put the final touches on her perfect Valley championship meet, tallying her third meet record in as many events by winning the women's 3000-meter in 9:24.33.  Pasca Cheruiyot of Missouri State was second in 9:44.83, while Nicole Braunsdorf of Drake was third in 9:59.60.

Results

Jeff Schirmer of Southern Illinois completed his second-straight distance double, winning both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter events for the second consecutive year.  Schirmer clocked in at 8:29.30, ahead of Illinois State's Scott Krapf (8:32.31) and Matt Mroczynski (8:32.57).
Women's 4x400  

Results

Indiana State's Erica Moore closed strong as the Sycamores claimed the women's 4x400 relay in a time of 3:46.50. Missouri State (3:46.65) edged Southern Illinois (3:49.10) for second.
Men's 4x400 

Results

UNI's quartet of Dennis Hammel, Ryan Grenko, Tyler Mulder and Cory Goos finished just off the MVC meet record in the 4x400-meter relay, winning the race in 3:12.75.  Wichita State (3:14.66) and Indiana State (3:16.51) finished second and third, respectively.
