Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Rolando Torrellas, Fr., Illinois State, Barquisimeto, Venezuela
Rolando Torrellas of Illinois State is this week’s MVC Men’s Tennis Playe of the Week. Rolando went 4-0 this weekend playing at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. He also did not drop a set against Illinois-Chicago or Butler. The Redbirds swept Illinois-Chicago and Butler this Saturday at our home opener, winning both matches 7-0. ISU is now 5-3 overall this season.
Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Kennedy Scott, Sr., Bradley, Calgary, Alberta
Scott did not play at all during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons due to injury, but is gainining more-and-more court time for the Braves this spring. In three matches this past weekend in Kalamazoo, Mich., Scott racked up a combined 4-1 singles and doubles record. She teamed with Carly Miles at No. 3 doubles Saturday at Western Michigan, dropping an 8-5 decision in the most closely-contested match of the dual match. Scott and Miles picked up two wins together Sunday, an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles versus IUPUI and an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles at Kalamazoo College. In singles action Sunday, Scott breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 6 singles versus IUPUI, then rallied for a 3-set win at No. 4 singles at Kalamazoo (3-6, 6-0, 6-4).
