Shockers to Play Texas in NCAA Tournament First Round

The Wichita State women's tennis team will head to Austin, Texas to play the University of Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Longhorns (17-7, 7-2) are coming off their win in the Big 12 Tournament, which is their first since 2005. They defeated Texas A&M, 4-2, in the Big 12 Tournament finals.

The Shockers (21-5, 7-0) are coming off their fourth consecutive Missouri Valley Conference title and third straight under head coach Colin Foster. They defeated Illinois State, 4-1, in the MVC Tournament Championship on Sunday.

The first round match will be played on Friday, May 11 at Penick-Allison Tennis Center. The time has yet to be determined.

First- and second-round competition takes place May 11-12 and features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., where the 16 teams will compete for the national championship May 17-22.  The event will be hosted by the University of Georgia.

The matches shall be regulation dual matches with three eight-game, pro-set doubles played for one team point, followed by six singles matches, each valued at one team point, played best of three sets. Regular scoring will be used and a 12-point tiebreaker will be played at eight games all in doubles and at six games all in singles.
