Valley Announces Tennis Athlete of the Week (Apr. 17)
Wichita State takes home both the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors this week. Matheus Pereira and Delia Damaschin both turned in perfect 4-0 ledgers this week, earning Valley Tennis Athlete of the Week recognition for the Shockers.
Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
Matheus Pereira, Wichita State, Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil
Matheus went 4-0 in all competition on the week to help move the Shockers to 14-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Playing in the number one position for singles, he defeated Hamish Weerasinghe of Bradley, 6-2, 6-2 and Alexander Pelaez of Illinois State, 6-2, 6-3. Also playing in the number one doubles position, he and his doubles partner David Cavalcanti defeated Juan Diego Cuadrado and Justin Abrams of Bradley, 8-4, and Alexander Pelaez and Tuomas Manner of Illinois State, 9-7. Pereira is 15-2 in dual match singles competition on the season, including 3-0 in conference play. He has won eleven straight singles matches. In doubles, he and Cavalcanti are 14-3 in dual match competition, and have won five straight matches.

Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
Delia Damaschin, Wichita State, Sr., Onesti, Romania
Delia helped the No. 62 Shockers (15-5, 5-0) stay undefeated in conference play, going 4-0 in all competition on the week. In singles, she defeated Emmie Marx of Illinois State, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, and Sarah Rodefeld of Bradley, 6-0, 6-1, all playing in the number two position. In doubles, she and her doubles partner Lucia Kovalova defeated Aniko Kiss and Emmie Marx of Illinois State, 9-8, 10-7, and Sarah Rodefeld and Adele Henke of Bradley, 8-2. Damaschin is now 12-7 in singles dual match competition on the season, including a perfect 5-0 during conference play. She has also won four straight contests.
