This week’s Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week is Anis Ghorbel of Drake. Manca Krizman of Drake takes home this week’s Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.

 

Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Junior Anis Ghorbel turned in a strong weekend for the Bulldogs registering a 3-1 combined singles/doubles ledger at the Harvard Kick-Off Invitational. The 51st-rated player in the nation, he helped Drake to a 4-2 win over No. 66 DePaul with a 6-3, 6-3 win over George Chanturia at the No. 1 position.  Against No. 73 Harvard, he accounted for the Bulldogs' lone tally in a 4-1 setback downing Jonathan Pearlman at the top slot, 6-1, 6-4.  Ghorbel capped his weekend pairing with James McKie to earn an 8-5 decision at No. 1 doubles in a 4-1 win over Denver.  He also was leading his singles contest at No. 1, 7-6, 6-7, 3-1 over Yannick Weihs when play was suspended after Drake garnered the deciding point.  On the season, Ghorbel owns a team-best 23-4 combined singles/doubles mark, including 14-2 in singles.  He was won six straight singles tilts and is 8-1 in his last 10 matches.

Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Junior Manca Krizman posted an unblemished 6-0 combined singles/doubles ledger last week en route to leading Drake to a perfect 3-0 mark at the Mid-America Jamboree Team Dual at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.  She paired with senior Gabriela Demos to clinch the doubles point in a 5-2 victory over Northern Illinois before securing a 6-1 triumph against SIU Edwardsville with her singles win.  Her opponents only managed five points against her in singles action, while also registering two 8-0 doubles victories with Demos.  On the season, Krizman owns a team-best 21-8 combined singles/doubles record, including 13-2 in singles.  She was won her last 10 singles contests.
