The Missouri Valley Conference recognizes Southern Illinois' Pamela Benitez as Swimmer of the Week and Esther Chen as Diver of the Week.

Pamela Benitez went 3-for-3 in individual events, leading SIU to a 154-89 win over Evansville on Saturday afternoon. Benitez swept the 200-, 250- and 500-yard freestyles in impressive fashion and was the only three-event winner in the dual meet. In going 3-for-3, Benitez has now won 18 of 19 individual events in dual meets in her career. In the meet's first individual event, Benitez won the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.96) by seven seconds over teammate Helena Amorim. In the very next event, Benitez cruised to a win in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.82), this time winning by nearly five seconds over her teammate. In the 250-yard freestyle, she cruised to her third win of the day (2:25.66).

Saluki newcomer Esther Chen dominated the springboard in Southern's 154-89 win over Evansville on Saturday afternoon. She started off with a convincing win in the one-meter dive (315.15), being the only diver to eclipse the 300-point total and winning by nearly 30 points. She accomplished the same feats in the three-meter dive (322.81), winning by nearly 40 points. Chen, who joined the team in the spring semester, is now a perfect 4-for-4 in her young SIU career.
