The Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week is Katherine Nelson of Illinois State. Wenting Zhang of Illinois State and Sadie Wells of Evansville each earned Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week honors.

Sophomore Katherine Nelson had a strong weekend of swimming in sprint events. The Redbirds competed in a dual meet Friday against Illinois. The Redbirds defeated the Illini 157-143. At this meet, Nelson earned two first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (24.22) and 100-yard freestyle (52.51). Nelson was also a member of the first-place and Horton Pool record breaking 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:36.20). The 200-yard freestyle relay was the meets last event, which secured the victory for the Redbirds. All three performances helped the Redbirds continuing their winning streak, and the team is now 4-0.

3-meter board- (312.01) 1st
Sophomore Wenting Zhang had a successful performance on Friday night against Illinois. Zhang broke the school record and the pool record on the 1-meter board with a score of 324.22. Zhang had previously held the pool record on the 1-meter board. Her performance on the 1-meter board also gave her a first place finish. On the 3-meter board Zhang continued to dominate with a score of 312.01. This score also gave her another first-place. Both of these victories helped the Redbirds defeat the Illini 157-143. The Redbirds are now 4-0.

3-meter (268.72) 1st
Diver Sadie Wells put together another impressive day, sweeping the boards in both the women’s 1-meter and 3-meter diving with a combined score of 511.22.
