Thursday, May 20, 2010 Chelsea Ray Earns ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Honors
Senior Diver Chelsea Ray has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District first team. Ray was selected from an at-large pool that consisted of sports that do not get individual nominations. Each NCAA institution is allowed three at-large nominations. This is Ray's first time on the all-District team. She is the lone Bear to earn the award via at-large berth this season.
Wednesday, February 17, 2010 MVC Announces Swimming & Diving Post-Season Honors
Twenty-seven Missouri Valley Conference athletes earned First Team All-Conference honors at the 2010 State Farm MVC Swimming & Diving Championship in Carbondale, Ill., hosted by Southern Illinois University. Team champion Missouri State led the league with 12 first team performers. Thirty-one swimmers and divers were named to the honorable mention team.

Missouri State claimed the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Swimming & Diving Championship with 981.50 points at the Dr. Edward Shea Natatorium on the campus of Southern Illinois University. The title was the third-straight for the Bears.

In a unanimous vote, Missouri State has been named as the pre-championship favorite at the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, February 11-13 in Carbondale, Ill., hosted by Southern Illinois University. The Bears are the favorites by a five point margin over Illinois State, who received all of the second-place votes (20 points). Southern Illinois was ranked third with 14 points.

Kirsten Groome of Southern Illinois grabbed wins in three different events this past weekend and recorded a new personal-best time in the 1000-yard freestyle. Northern Iowa's Bethany Olson finished the regular season off strong, with two first-place finishes in the one-meter and three-meter dives. For their efforts, Groome and Olson are this week's State Farm MVC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.

Illinois State's Danielle Schumacher achieved two personal-best times this past weekend in the 500-yard freestyle and the 1000-yard freestyle. Heather Fulton of Missouri State had a busy weekend, competing in three meets over a span of just three days. Fulton placed in the top three in the one- and three-meter dives at each of the competitions. For their efforts, Schumacher and Fulton are this week's State Farm MVC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.

Brianna Willoughby of Missouri State had a spectacular weekend as she swam her way to the fastest speed in the Valley in the 200-yard Individual Medley and started the relay off strong for the 400-yard Freestyle Relay team that also achieved the top spot in the MVC. Northern Iowa's Bethany Olson earned first-place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives at the dual against the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

University of Evansville's Hannah Quast placed first in the 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and the 400 medley relay this past week leading the Purple Aces to victory. For her efforts, Quast is this week's State Farm MVC Swimmer of the Week.

Right around the Thanksgiving holiday, Evansville freshman Michea Reinitz equaled the time MVC time in the 100 fly, clocking a 57.02 at the Washington University Invitational for the event win. In addition, Reinitz claimed event victories in the 50 free, 200 fly and four UE relays. Missouri State's Chelsea Ray competed well at the Purdue Invitational in the 1- and 3-meter dives with an 8th-place showing on the high board. For their efforts, Reinitz and Ray are this week's State Farm MVC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.

Southern Illinois freshman Kirsten Groome shaved nearly 17 seconds of the top MVC time in the 1000 freestyle, posting a time of 9:59.70 in a dual meet against Missouri. The newcomer also claimed a win and set a new MVC best in the 200 fly with her time of 2:04.38. For her outstanding efforts, Groome is this week's State Farm MVC Swimmer of the Week.

Southern Illinois' Therese Mattsson grabbed wins in the 100- and 200-freestyle races in head-to-head competition against Illinois, marking the ninth first place finish in nine attempts this season and recording the Valley's top mark in the 100 free. Chelsea Ray of Missouri State posted solid scores on the boards, missing the zone qualifying mark by 0.60 in the one-meter event and won the three-meter dive, as well. For their efforts, Mattsson and Ray are this week's State Farm Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.

Last week, Illinois State hosted a triangular meet with Evansville and Iowa State, narrowly falling to Iowa State and getting the better of MVC rival Evansville. Missouri State's women split duals, topping Western Illinois and falling to Iowa. In the water, Missouri State freshman Marta Nogueroles grabbed three event wins, including the MVC's top time in the 200 fly and 1000 free, while Illinois State diver Katelyn Prorok qualified for the NCAA Zone C Regional Diving meet on the 1 meter board with a score of 266.35. For their efforts, Nogueroles and Prorok are this week's State Farm MVC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.

Southern Illinois freshman Kirsten Groome started her collegiate career in style, posting outstanding times in the 500 and 1650 free and the 400 IM which would have landed her at or near the top of the MVC best lists a season ago. Illinois State's Katelyn Prorok, last season's MVC Diver of the Year, began with first place showings in the 1- and 3-meter dives against conference foe UNI, recording a mark of 261.98 on the 1-meter ? just shy of the NCAA Regional qualification number.
