No. 15/17 Washington (8-1) got a two-hit gem from Danielle Lawrie (6-0) and the Huskies pounded out seven hits en route to a 9-0 run-rule victory over Wichita State (3-8) to win the USF/Wilson Invitational with a 5-0 mark in tournament play.
Starter Margo Pruis (2-2) was charged with all nine runs, while walking five and striking out four. All five runs she gave up in the second were unearned, and the senior gave up just six hits on the morning.
Junior Cynthia Verhulst came on to work the final inning, giving up one hit and striking out two in the fifth. Junior Erin Peters and freshman Kara L'Huillier recorded the only hits for the Shockers. Lawrie struck out 10 and walked two in the win.
WSU is next in action this weekend at the Clarion Inn/Lady'Back Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
