Lawson Montgomery of Wichita State and Holli Hosch of University Northen Iowa are named this weeks Track Athletes of the week.

J.C. Lambert of Southern Illinois and Felisha Johnson of Indiana State take home the Field Athlete of the week honors.

 

Missouri Valley Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week

Lawson Montgomery, Wichita State, JR./ Bennington, Kan.
Montgomery, who is ranked second in school history in the 60-meter hurdles, edged teammates Devon Lockard and Todd McKown at the Varsity Apartments Shocker Quad & Multi on Saturday, Feb. 5. Montgomery clocking in at 7.42 in the 55-meter hurdles, giving him a time of 7.84 in the 60-meter hurdles (following the conversion) which also puts him only 0.13 seconds away from breaking Shannon Armstrong’s school record time of 7.72.  Montgomery ranks 22nd in the country and first in the Missouri Valley in the high hurdles.

 

Missouri Valley Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Holli Hosch, UNI, SR./ Walker, Iowa (Independence HS)
UNI senior Holli Hosch won the 800m at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational over some of the nation’s top runners, destroying the 15-year-old UNI school record and finishing in 2:06.31 to break the previous mark by 2.69 seconds. She now holds the indoor and outdoor school records in the 800m at UNI. Hosch is now ranked No. 8 in the country.

 

Missouri Valley Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week

Lambert punched his ticket to the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday night at the SIU Invitational, winning the men's weight throw with a mark of 70-09.75. In the process, the Harrisburg, Ill., native broke the school record in the event, which was previously held by Mark Milleville, by five inches. Lambert topped national top 50 throwers Ben Bishop of SIU-Edwardsville, Knut Syversen of Memphis, and Arthur Thomas of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.



Misouri Valley Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week

Felisha Johnson, Indiana State, SO/ Indianapolis, Ind.

Sophomore Felisha Johnson won her fifth straight weight throw event and also won the shot put at the DePauw Tiger Invitational on Saturday. Johnson surpassed the automatic qualifying distance for the women’s weight throw for the fourth time this season as she won the event by breaking her own school record with a throw of 74’-2.50” (22.62 meters), outdistancing teammate Kelsey Hanley who was second at 66’-6.5” (20.33 meters). The sophomore won the shot put with a heave of 50’-7.5” (15.43 meters). Johnson ranks second in the nation and second in the Valley in the weight throw and is ranked 32nd in the nation and third in the Valley for the shot put.
