Creighton's Koenigstein Named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week
TUSCON, Ariz. -- Creighton pitcher Brandon Koenigstein was named to the Louisville Slugger's National Players of the Week list on Monday, for his no-hitter performance on May 21 against Wichita State.

Koenigstein needed just 73 pitches to throw the first recorded complete game no-hitter in school history, lifting the Bluejays to an 11-0 win over Wichita State during the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The game was shortened to seven innings due to the league's 10-run rule. He struck out a career-high seven and faced the minimum 21 batters. He allowed just one runner, hitting Tyler Grimes to open the fourth inning. Grimes was later retired on a double play.

Koenigstein did not go to a 3-ball count all evening. The no-hitter was the second on record in Creighton history, joining the combined no-no by future Major Leaguer Dennis Rasmussen (5 1/3 innings) and Joe Franco (3 2/3 innings) against Kansas State. in 1980. Wichita State had not been no-hit since 1984.

On Saturday night, Koenigstein was named to the All-MVC Tournament team, along with Vicente Cafaro, Elliot Soto, Jimmy Swift and Robbie Knight. The Jays played in their third MVC Championship game in the last five years, falling to Wichita State 4-2, allowing the Shockers to advance to their 17th straight NCAA Tournament.
