UNI's Bucknam Named Track & Field Coach at Arkansas
After a quarter century of putting the University of Northern Iowa track and field program on the map, head coach Chris Bucknam is stepping down as a Panther to take over the head men's track and field coaching job at the University of Arkansas.

UNI Men 11th as MVC Teams Conclude NCAA Championships
UNI Added eight top-eight finishes on the final day of the 2008 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Des Moines, Iowa and earning an 11th-place team finish, the highest-ever in school history and the top Valley team finish since Southern Illinois' 5th-place team finish in 1984.. UNI's Dorian Ulrey claimed the second runner-up finish for an MVC athlete in the men's 1500m run, matching the women's hammer throw effort of Southern Illinois' Brittany Riley.

Action at the 2008 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship is underway at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Missouri Valley Conference member Drake University is this year's championship host, welcoming 26 Valley entries.

UNI's Bucknam, Geopfert Earn USTFCCCA Coaching Honors
UNI head track & field coach Chris Bucknam was named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association women's track coach of the year in the Midwest Region, while assistant Travis Geopfert was named the top men's assistant coach. Bucknam's honor is his first on the women's side, adding to the seven district coach of the year honors as a men's head coach.

Valley Automatically Qualifies 20 for NCAA Track & Field Championship
Twenty Missouri Valley Conference athletes have punched tickets to the 2008 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship as automatic qualifiers with standout performances in regional competition on Friday and Saturday. MVC member Drake will host for the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championship at historic Drake Stadium on June 11-14.

2008 State Farm MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship
UNI became the first team to sweep the men's and women's title in both the indoor and outdoor championships as they topped the field in Carbondale, Ill., at the 2008 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The Panthers outdistanced Wichita State, 204-180.50, on the men's side for their second-straight outdoor team title and snuck by host Southern Illinois, 172.50 to 168, on the women's side. Weekly Track & Field Notebook: MVC Championship This Weekend
The 2008 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship will take place May 16-18 at McAndrew Stadium in Carbondale, Ill., on the campus of Southern Illinois University. The 2008 meet marks the 98th outdoor track & field championship sponsored by the Missouri Valley Conference, the most contested championship in the conference and second-most contested track & field championship in the nation (Big Ten, 108). Northern Iowa's men and Wichita State's women were the team champions.

Missouri Valley Conference track & field athletes stood out among thousands of athletes at prestigious meets across the nation last week, posting some of the nation's top performances as they head towards NCAA Regional competition. A baker's dozen of performances from the weekend sit atop the MVC best lists. Valley teams are making their moves in the national rankings as the UNI men jumped 31 spots, Wichita State's men picked up three positions over last week and the UNI, Southern Illinois and Wichita State women all picked up ground.

Weekly Track & Field Notebook: Drake Relays This Week
Missouri Valley Conference athletes posted 24 conference-best performances over the weekend as the competition heads toward the State Farm MVC Championship and the NCAA Regional meets in less than a month's time. The Track & Field world will turn its focus towards Des Moines, Iowa, this week for the 98th Drake Relays, hosted by Drake University. Competition begins April 23 and runs through the weekend, with nearly 8,000 athletes scheduled to compete. More information on the Drake Relays can be found here.

In an off week on the track for many, Indiana State turned in three of the MVC's four NCAA Regional qualifying performances. Of note, Steve Daniel turned in the nation's 11th-best triple jump with a leap of 51-07.25 (15.73m) and Erica Moore posted 5,368 in the heptathlon, the 10th-best score in the country to date. The State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship is a month away, beginning May 16 in Carbondale, Ill., hosted by Southern Illinois University.

Weekly Outdoor Track & Field Notebook: Fast Start to Outdoor Season
Seventeen Missouri Valley Conference track athletes posted regional qualifying marks over the first two weekends of the outdoor track & field season, including throws by Rachel Jansen of UNI and Brittany Riley of Southern Illinois that rank second in the nation in the shot put and hammer throw, respectively. The UNI men are ranked 15th in the USTFCCCA preseason poll, after finishing ninth in the NCAA Indoor Championship, equaling their 2007 finish and the top finish in MVC history. Long-time Indiana State men's coach John McNichols will be inducted into the Drake Relays Coaches Hall of Fame on April 24, as announced Tuesday, April 1.

UNI's Mulder Wins 800m National Title; UNI Men Ninth
The University of Northern Iowa track and field team scored four All-America performances Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Championships, including a national championship performance from Tyler Mulder in the men's 800m that helped the Panthers claim its second-straight ninth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championship. Mulder's championship comes a day after Southern Illinois' Brittany Riley won her second NCAA weight throw title.

UNI claimed the men's and women's team championships over the weekend at the 2008 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The UNI men tallied 167.5 points, ahead of runner-up Southern Illinois by 24 points and 40 points clear of third-place Wichita State. On the women's side, the Panthers notched 147.5 points to claim the title over Southern Illinois (116.2) and Indiana State (112.70).

Cepeda's Heptathlon One For the Books; Weekly Track & Field Notebook
A dominating, national-best performance in the heptathlon by UNI's Raven Cepeda and another world-class weight throw by Southern Illinois' Brittany Riley highlighted a busy weekend in Missouri Valley Conference track & field. Cepeda broke the school and MVC record in the event and recorded the top total in the nation with his 5,906-point effort. The total also tops the U.S. Track & Field list that was last updated on Jan. 29. Riley recorded the second-best weight throw in the nation among all throwers with a 24.12m toss.
