MVC Announces 2006-07 Honor Roll
ST. LOUIS ? Sixty-eight student-athletes highlight more than 1,000 who earned selection to the 2006-07 Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll, as announced by the league office. Those 68 student-athletes earned the league's highest academic achievement by capturing the Missouri Valley Conference President's Council Academic Excellence Award.

Evansville To Participate in 2007 Preseason WNIT
The Evansville womens basketball team will represent the Missouri Valley Conference in the 2007 Preseason WNIT. The tournament will be played in a three-game guarantee format involving 16 teams from 16 different conferences. All games are hosted by participating schools. The initial round of the event will involve eight sites hosted by participating institutions. The winner's bracket will look identical to past Preseason tournaments.

Wichita State Takes 2006-07 MVC All-Sports Crown
For the fourth-straight season, Wichita State University has captured the Missouri Valley Conference All-Sports Trophy. The Shockers claimed five Valley championships in 2006-07 and became just the third program in league history to win four-straight all-sports crowns.

Wichita State Sweeps Final Weekly Awards
Wichita State swept the final weekly Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for the 2007 baseball season. Conor Gillaspie and Rob Musgrave earned the awards after helping guide their team to the MVC Regular-Season Crown with a series sweep of Illinois State last weekend. Gillaspie's average was .583 in three games, with four runs batted in and five doubles while Musgrave pitched a complete game shutout, the first nine-inning CG since Mike Pelfrey did it on May 6, 2005.

Thursday Baseball Recap: Shockers, Bluejays Win
Wichita State and Creighton are in a tight race for the MVC Regular-Season Title as both teams won their series openers as the final weekend of action got underway Thursday night. WSU was a 7-5 winner at home over Illinois State while Creighton's Marc Lewis was the winning pitcher in a 1-0 shutout of Missouri State.

Valley Tennis Set for NCAA Challenges
The Missouri Valley Conference men's and women's tennis champions are in the final stages of preparation for play in the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Championship first-round. No. 52 Drake, the Valley's men's champions, looks to extend its winning streak to 23 matches as they square off with No. 21 Michigan in Champaign, Ill., on Friday while the No. 35 Wichita State Shockers carry the MVC women's banner into play agasint No. 25 South Carolina in Miami on Saturday.

John Stanley Named Director of Athletics at Evansville
John Stanley is one of the most highly respected business leaders in Evansville, and now he is bringing his talents to the University of Evansville as Director of Athletics. University of Evansville President Stephen Jennings announced the appointment today ? on Stanley's 57th birthday. Stanley replaces Bill McGillis, who is leaving after five years at UE to become senior associate director of athletics at the University of South Florida. With Stanley, the University adds another alumnus to the Department of Athletics who brings strong local ties. In March, former Purple Aces' player and assistant coach Marty Simmons returned to his alma mater as men's basketball coach. Jennings said that input from trustees, faculty members, head coaches and members of the administration assisted in the process of finding a new Athletics Director.

University of Evansville Director of Athletics Bill McGillis has announced that he has accepted the position of Senior Associate Athletics Director at the University of South Florida. Women's Soccer Conference Opening Weekend
Drake's Melissa Lewis scored the Bulldogs' game-winning goal three minutes into the second overtime to lift the defending regular-season champions over league-leading Missouri State in women's soccer conference action. Indiana State was also a league winner, handing UNI a 2-1 loss. In non-conference play, Creighton was topped by Kansas, 1-0.

LOUIS -- Sara Lungren of Wichita State University and Justin Douglass of Missouri State University have been selected the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the period of September 4-10, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program, which is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies, honors conference student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom. The program began during the 1999-00 academic year.

UNI Ranked 70th in 2005-06 Director's Cup Standings
University of Northern Iowa athletics is ranked 70th in the final 2005-06 U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup Standings, earning its second highest ranking in the history of the award. The Panthers are the highest ranked Missouri Valley Conference and Gateway Conference institution and took second place among Division I state of Iowa athletic programs.
