2007 Softball All-Tournament Team
Creighton catcher T.J. Eadus was named MVP of the 2007 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Softball Championship after hitting .571 with a pair of home runs, six runs batted in and a 1.714 slugging percentage as the Bluejays captured their fifth MVC Tournament title. In the championship game, Eadus went 3-for-4 with four RBI and hit her 16th home run of the year in CU's 6-2 win over Southern Illinois.

Valley Softball Earns Three NCAA Bids; SIU to Host Regional

Inclement weather over the midwest has caused the cancelation of confernce games for the third-consecutive weekend as both series scheduled in Indiana have been called off for Saturday as rain soaked both fields. While weather was affecting action in Evansville and Terre Haute, nothing could dampen the spirits of Illinois State head coach Melinda Fischer as she became the school's all-time winningest coach with a doubleheader sweep of Drake. In the only other game to be played on Saturday, Wichita State was a 7-0 winner over UNI.

Katie Martin launched a one-out double to score sophomore Jessie Smith in the 11th inning as the Missouri State softball team defeated Wichita State, 1-0, Wednesday at the Missouri State Softball Field. Junior Melissa Porche was outstanding on the mound for the Bears, pitching a complete game shutout, as Missouri State improved to 16-20 overall and 5-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Illinois State grabbed a second MVC win over Top 25 competition at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with their 3-0 win over No. 18/18 Georgia.

Eadus, Birdsong Take Softball Player/Pitcher of the Week Honors
All 10 Valley teams are officially underway in 2007 with several players off to fast starts. TJ Eadus made her opening weekend as a Bluejay a memorable one as she hit .533, with four home runs and 12 runs batted in while slugging 1.400. Birdsong was dominant for Bradley, hurling 17.2 innings of scoreless softball, striking out 26 and picking up three wins over the weekend at the Schutt Invitational.

Friday Night Softball Recap
Six games were on the slate for Friday, with Illinois State playing in Tempe, Ariz., and Missouri State and Southern Illinois playing the Crowne Plaza Classic in Houston. Missouri State's night cap against Houston was postponed and the UT-Martin Tournament was washed out. Indiana State, who was scheduled to play at UT-Martin, will now play in the Lion Softball Scramble in Hammond, La., beginning Saturday.

Illinois State Tabbed as Favorite; 13 Players Named Preseason All-Valley
Illinois State was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the annual Missouri Valley Conference softball coaches' poll, announced Monday by the league office. The defending regular-season champion Redbirds, who garnered 86 votes and six first-place tallies, edged out Southern Illinois by just three points. The Salukis received the remaining three votes as the conference's top squad.
