Three Share Weekly Golf Awards
This week's Missouri Valley Conference Golfers of the Week are Matt Miller of Illinois State, John Sutko of Creighton, and Samantha Richdale of Illinois State. Miller finished second at the Louisville Intercollegiate, Sutko won the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, and Richdale had a record-setting performance in the Indiana Lady Northern. Creighton sophomore John Sutko captured first place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate tournament. The 54-hole event was held Sept. 26-27 in Kansas City, Mo. Sutko shot rounds of 72 and 71, before firing a four-under par final round of 68. Sutko's score of 68 was a career best, and gave him a five-under par total of 211 to win the tournament. Illinois State junior Matt Miller carded a three-under-par 69 in the third-round of the Cardinal Intercollegiate to finish the tournament in second-place with a three-round total of 209 (74, 66, 69). Senior Matt Maskel also fired a one-under-par 71 in the third-round to finish tied for third-place with a three-round total of 210 (65, 74, 71). The Redbirds finished the tournament tied for fifth-place with Wyoming, posting a three-round total of four-over-par 868 (287, 290, 291) and eleven shots off the lead. The four teams ahead of the `Birds in the standings all finished under-par for the tournament. Evansville and Southern Illinois both competed in the John Dallio Tournament. SIU carded its lowest round of the tournament on the final day and finished seventh. Andrew Gwinup was the top individual for the Salukis as posted a 76 in the final round for a tournament-total 1-over-par 217, finishing tied for sixth. The Aces' top four golfers shot between 72 and 74 in the final round of the Dallio to lift UE into a fourth place finish among the 15 teams. UE was led by Chris Bouchard (75-72-74--221) in 17th place. Wichita State wraps up play in the Nevada-Reno Invitational on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Missouri State's tournament scheduled in Monroe, La., was postponed and moved to next week. Rewriting the Illinois State women’s golf record books, senior Samantha Richdale broke three school records in 54 holes at the Lady Northern Invitational. Richdale took the tournament with Maria Hernandez from Purdue with a three-round score of 214, a never before seen all-time low 54-hole score in ISU history. Adding to her record breaking 214, was an all-time low 36-hole score of 141 and a third broken record of an all time-low 18-hole score of 69 in round two. Creighton and Wichita State were at the Nebraska Chip-N-Club Invitational. Creighton junior Audrey Butler had both her best career finish and lowest career score. Butler shot rounds of 78, 71 and 80 for a three round total of 229. Wichita State finished sixth with a score of 948 (315-314-319), on the par 72, 6,009 yard Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. Individually the Shockers were led by redshirt-junior Catalina Guacaneme and sophomore Tara Goedeken who each tied for sixth with a 228. SIU finished 10th out of 16 teams at The Bay Tree Classic. Freshman Braidy Hood made a great showing at the Myrtle Beach tournament finishing tied for 38th. |
