Missouri Valley Announces Championship Sites for 2006-07
Commissioner Doug Elgin has announced the complete list of dates and sites for the various Missouri Valley Conference sports championships for the 2006-07 athletic season. Notably, that includes a recommendation from the league?s Joint Committee (faculty athletics representatives, directors of athletics and senior woman administrators of each institution) to bring the 2006 State Farm MVC Women?s Soccer Championship to Omaha, Neb., the 2006 State Farm MVC Men?s Soccer Championship to Peoria, Ill.; the 2007 State Farm MVC Women?s Basketball Championship to Des Moines, Iowa, and the 2007 State Farm MVC Softball Championship to Normal, Ill.

Wichita State University Claims 2005-06 All-Sports Trophy
For the third-straight season, Wichita State University has captured the Missouri Valley Conference All-Sports Trophy. The Shockers did it in record fashion, claiming seven Valley championships in 2005-06 and gaining fifth-or-better finishes in all of the 15 Valley sports in which they sponsor. The Shockers earned titles in women?s cross country, women?s indoor and outdoor track & field, men?s basketball, men?s golf, women?s tennis (co-championship), and volleyball.

Evansville Wins Regular-Season Baseball Championship
The University of Evansville earned the Missouri Valley Conference Regular-Season Title and No. 1 seed in the 2006 ConAgra Foods MVC Baseball Championship after a three-game sweep of Bradley Saturday at Braun Stadium. The Aces have won 10 games in a row and finished out the regular season sweeping two Valley opponents for its first conference title.

Lamonica Retiring from Athletics Media Relations
If you've attended an Illinois State volleyball or women's basketball game at Redbird Arena, you've likely seen Sports Information Director Tom Lamonica milling around on press row. A fixture on the sidelines of Redbird Athletics for the past 26 years, Lamonica will be retiring from his post in Athletics Media Relations effective May 31.

Weekly Baseball Release - Bolt, Jenkins Honored
With Illinois State's historic series win over visiting Wichita State this past weekend, the first series win for the Redbirds over the Shockers since 1984, ILS' Matt Bolt has been honored by the league as this week's MVC Player of the Week. Bolt had three doubles in the series that, in the end, still has the Shockers in the league lead, but Southern Illinois is just a half game behind heading into the final two weekends of conference play.

NCAA Allows Bradley to Keep Nickname
The NCAA Executive Committee today removed Bradley University for the list of schools subject to restrictions on the use of Native American mascots, names and imagery at NCAA championships, but placed the institution on a five-year watch list, according to a release from the NCAA national office this morning.

Prairie Farms Scholar-Athletes
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.

The new agreement between the Missouri Valley Conference and Comcast SportsNet Chicago begins with the 2005-06 season and runs through the 2006-07 academic year -- the Conference?s 100th year of competition. Comcast SportsNet Chicago began serving as the league?s Chicagoland carrier during the 2004-05 season.

MVC Announces Staff Hirings
Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner Doug Elgin has announced the hirings of David Biancamano and Mary Mulvenna and promotions for Erica Fricke and Matt Marchal. Biancamano has been hired as Assistant Director of Communications, while Mulvenna has been appointed Director of Compliance and Community Relations. Meanwhile, Fricke has been promoted to Director of Communications, and Marchal is now Assistant Commissioner for Corporate Relations.
