This week’s Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week are Jonathan Rono of Missouri State, Southern Illinois’ Mark Milleville and Megan Cenkush and Illinois State’s Laura Kennedy.

Rono, a sophomore middle distance runner, earned two top-five finishes at Saturday’s Tulsa Duels.The Kenyan native finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.23, the top time in the Valley this spring. In the 1,500-meter run, Rono finished fourth in 3:55.29 and recorded another top time on the Valley best list.

Milleville used his final attempt to launch the hammer 216-04, to set a new SIU, Missouri Valley Conference and McAndrew Stadium record Friday afternoon during the SIU Spring Classic. The senior broke a four-year-old school record set by former Saluki Adam Judge of 216-01. Judge also held the previous Valley all-time best mark. Milleville won the meet title by nearly 25 feet and qualified for the NCAA regional meet. He also finished second in the discus (167-08) and the shot put (53-07). He is currently ranked first in the Valley in the hammer throw and second in both the shot put and discus.

Kennedy won the steeplechase at the SIU Spring Classic in 10:38.21, setting a new stadium record in the process and also qualified for the NCAA regionals. She beat the rest of the field by over 30 seconds.

Cenkush scored 34 of SIU’s 96.3 points at the SIU Spring Classic to help her team to a fourth-place finish. The senior took the shot put and javelin meet titles and finished second in the hammer throw and third in the discus. Cenkush threw a cereer-best 150-06 in the javelin to qualify for the NCAA regional meet. She threw 46-03.50 to take the meet title in the shot put.
