2006 AT&T Outdoor Track and Field Championship Recap
The Missouri Valley Conference was well represented at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend at the IU Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind. Five Valley student-athletes competed in event finals and at the USA Junior Championship, an additional five student-athletes also had impressive showings.

Twelve Valley Track & Field Student-Athletes to Participate in the 2006 USA Outdoor T&F Championship
Twelve Valley student-athletes will be competing this weekend at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. Led by Mideast Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year Amarachi Ukabam, these 12 athletes along with present Olympians and future Olympic hopefuls will compete for national titles and the right to be named the best male or female in the United States.

NCAA Track and Field Championship Day Two Recap
UNI Sophomore Raven Cepeda earned All-America honors in the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Decathlon on Thursday. In addition, sophomore Rachel Jansen of UNI qualified for the finals in the shot put and Southern Illinois thrower Brittany Riley advanced to the finals in the hammer throw, which will both be held Saturday afternoon.

NCAA Track and Field Championship Day One Recap
Amarachi Ukabam and Ty Davis of Southern Illinois made it past the preliminary round of competition Wednesday at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on day one of the NCAA National Track and Field Championships. Indiana State's Jordan Fife was the final qualifier on the day in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Desiraye Osburn of Wichita State qualified for the finals of the 5,000-meter run, placing sixth in the preliminary race.

Southern Illinois University women's track and field team landed on both the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and the Trackwire polls after a sixth-place finish at the Mideast Regional Meet last weekend at the University of Tennessee.

Eighteen Valley Athletes To Participate in the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
The 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Regionals concluded last weekend and the Missouri Valley Conference was well represented. Eighteen student-athletes from five Valley institutions finished in the top five individually in their respective events and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. These individuals will compete for All-American status June 7-10 at the A.G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif.

Valley Competes in NCAA Track Regionals, Day 2 Update
The 2006 NCAA Track and Field Regionals concluded on Saturday and the Missouri Valley Conference was well represented for the second day in a row. At the Mideast Regional, the Southern Illinois Women finished in sixth place scoring 35 points, while the Illinois State women scored two points, good for 39th. On the men's side, Southern Illinois tied for 20th with 13 points. Indiana State scored 12 points (24th), Missouri State notched five (T34) and Illinois State scored three (T36).

2006 Scholar-Athlete Teams
Ninety-eight student-athletes qualified for the 2006 Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Team, as announced by the league office today. The criteria for the Valley Scholar-Athlete Track and Field Team requires a student-athlete to have placed in the top six at either the indoor or outdoor Valley championship and to maintain a GPA of 3.00 or higher. Freshman and first-year junior college transfer students are not eligible.

The Indiana State men and the Wichita State women took home the team titles at the 2006 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The Sycamores posted a total of 167 points on their way to the title, and Shockers finished with 169 points en route to the crown. On the weekend, five new records were established in the Valley annals.

The first day of the 2006 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship concluded at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University. Highlighting day one was a meet and stadium record by SIU?s Brittany Riley in the hammer. Five other league champions were crowned Friday afternoon and evening. Indiana State and Southern Illinois share the men?s lead with 24 points while the women?s squad from WSU is in first place with 26 points.

Weekly Track Notebook; Pre-Championship Track Polls
Wichita State?s women?s team has been voted as the pre championship favorite heading into this weekend?s State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The Shockers garnered all eight first-place votes and totaled 64 points in the pre championship coaches poll. On the men?s side, Indiana State was voted the favorite. The Sycamores totaled 47 points and collected five first-place votes. The 2006 State Farm/MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship begins on Friday, May 12, and continues through Sunday, May 14, at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, Kan.

This week's Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week are Illinois State's Bronco Meeks, Yuriy Litvinski of UNI, Wichita State's Sarah Becker and Brittany Riley of Southern Illinois. Meeks defended his 800-meter title at the Drake Relays in a season-best time of 1:49.58, while Litvinski posted a season-best mark of 51-10 in the triple jump also at Drake. For the women, Becker hit the regional qualifying mark in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Drake Relays and moved herself up in the national rankings and Riley had a second-place finish in the women's hammer at Drake with a toss of 194-03.

This week's Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week are Jordan Fife of Indiana State, Mark Milleville of Southern Illinois, Illinois State?s Lian Lucas and Tracy Partain of Missouri State. Fife ran a season-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Milleville boasted his second regional qualifying mark of the season winning the discus with a 184-05 effort, good enough for third all-time at SIU. On the women's side, Lucas regionally qualified in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, while Partain won the heptathlon last weekend with a score of 5,649 which automatically qualifies her for the NCAA National Championship in May.

Weekly Outdoor Track and Field Notebook: Acklin, Sparks, Osburn and Jansen Honored
This week's Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week are Southern Illinois' Anthony Acklin, Indiana State's Charlie Sparks, Wichita State's Desiraye Osburn and Rachel Jansen of UNI. Acklin ran the 110-meter hurdles in 13.84, currently the sixth fastest time in the nation, while Sparks improved on his NCAA regional qualifying mark in the discus by throwing a first-place distance of 174-00. On the women's side, Osburn broke yet another MVC and school record as she placed second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:19.95 and Jansen won the hammer throw at the UNI Messersmith Invitational with a mark of 176-07.
