Hittner, McGlynn Named Enterprise Bank MVC Scholar-Athletes of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Nick McGlynn and Becca Hittner of Drake have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.  The two athletes were honored for their performances during the period of December 18- December 31.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their athletic performance during the one-week period.

Nick McGlynn, Drake, Jr., Basketball, Media Production, 3.62 GPA
Drake junior Nick McGlynn averaged 10.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in the Bulldogs’ four most recent games while shooting 54.8 percent from the field. He opened MVC play by averaging 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in a pair of wins to help the Bulldogs to a 2-0 MVC record. The junior tipped off the MVC season with an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double, his third double-double of the season and made two critical free throws with seven seconds left in the 66-64 win over Bradley. He followed that effort with 17 points and seven rebounds in a win at SIU on 7-of-13 shooting and two assists. 

Becca Hittner, Drake, So., Basketball, Business Studies, 3.94 GPA
Hittner had quite the performance in Drake’s final non-conference game at No. 25 Iowa, pouring in a career-high 27 points with 21 points scored in the final two quarters, adding six rebounds in the loss. In Drake’s two MVC opening wins, Hittner averaged 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) from the floor and 3-for-5 (60 percent) from behind the three-point line.  In the win over Valparaiso, Hittner scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds and handed out four assists in just 22 minutes. In the win over Loyola, she scored a game-high 12 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes. This season, Hittner is averaging 14.3 points per game, which ranks fourth in the MVC.
