Kevin White of Loyola and Amanda McClain of Illinois State have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. The two athletes were honored for their performances during the period of May 1- May 7.
Kevin White, So., Loyola, Track and Field, Environmental Science, 3.84 GPA
White picked up his second victory in as many weeks in the 800m and secured his spot at the NCAA West Regional by clocking in at a personal-best 1:49.25, the third fastest mark in school history, at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic on May 5. One week earlier, White captured the title in the 800m at the prestigious Drake Relays. Off the track, White is a member of the MVC Honor Roll and is a Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award recipient. He was also the recipient of the MVC State Farm Good Neighbor Award in 2017.
Amanda McClain, So., Illinois State, Track and Field, Biological Sciences, 3.92 GPA
In her final tune-up before attempting to defend her title at the MVC Championships next weekend, McClain took home the long jump title at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic Friday night with a mark of 19-04.75. She currently holds the top spot in the event heading into the championship, and has won the previous three crowns in the long jump (two indoor, one outdoor). She was also part of the winning 4x400m relay team that took first in a time of 3:42.95, as they head into the MVC Championships with the second-fastest time this season outdoors. A standout in the classroom as well, McClain owns a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) as a biological sciences major.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
