ST. LOUIS - Derrius Rodgers of Illinois State and Becca Hittner of Drake have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.  The two athletes were honored for their performances during the period of December 4- December 10.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their athletic performance during the one-week period.

Derrius Rodgers, Illinois State, So., Track and Field, Entrepreneurship & Small Business, 3.25 GPA
During the preliminary rounds of Friday’s Eastern Illinois Early Bird meet in Charleston, Illinois, Rodgers posted the second-fastest 60m-dash time (6.66) in the nation so far this season, winning his heat by a landslide. His time, which currently ranks first in the Valley, broke the EIU Early Bird meet record, shattering the previous mark of 6.71 that had stood since 2011. In addition, Rodgers ran a leg on Illinois State’s 4x400m relay team, which took first with a time of 3:21.07. Also a standout in the classroom, Rodgers maintains a 3.25 cumulative grade point average as an entrepreneurship and small business major.

Becca Hittner, Drake, So., Basketball, Business Studies, 3.94 GPA
Hittner averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from the floor, 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from beyond the arc and 93.3 percent (14-of-15) from the free throw line, helping Drake to a 1-1 mark during the week.  She scored 18 points, behind 6-of-11 shooting, in just 18 minutes in a blowout win over Iowa Wesleyan.  The sophomore added four rebounds and one assist and made all four of her free throws in the win.  She followed that performance with her first double-double of the season, posting 18 points and 10 rebounds in a double overtime loss to Nebraska.  Hittner ranks fifth in the MVC in scoring at 14.9 points per game.
