Finlay, Holt Named MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalists

Creighton seniors Ethan Finlay and Brian Holt are among the 15 men's semifinalists for the 2011 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Sunday.  Finlay is one of two repeat selections as a semifinalist after the forward was on the initial preseason Watch List, while Holt was listed among the 15 semifinalists after his record-setting season in goal for the Bluejays.  The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer.

Finlay, a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, was also a semifinalist as a junior last year.  The forward from Marshfield, Wis., leads the MVC with 14 goals and 34 points this year.  The All-American has six game-winning goals to lead the MVC for the fourth straight season in game-winners.  Finlay, a second-team Academic All-American, ranks in the MVC and Creighton career top-10 with 43 goals and 103 points in his standout career.

Holt, the MVC Goalkeeper of the Year, set an NCAA record on Sunday in Creighton's 1-0 quarterfinal win over South Florida.  His clean sheet was the 43rd of his career, giving him the NCAA record.  This season the CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year leads the NCAA with 21 wins, 91.9 save percentage an 0.22 goals against average.  The MVC Tournament MVP has started all 18 of Creighton's shutouts this season and turned in 16 solo shutouts to set a school and league record.  Holt, a graduate of Omaha Creighton Prep, has allowed only five goals in 23 matches and better than 2,000 minutes this season.

Finlay is joined by Duke's Andrew Wenger as the only players to repeat as MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalists.

Head coaches of NCAA Division I programs with current membership in the NSCAA will vote to determine the 2011 MAC Hermann Trophy recipient. Three finalists for the award will be announced on Friday, Dec. 9. They will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis for a news conference on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, where the winner will be announced. A dinner and formal presentation of the award will follow the news conference that evening.
