No. 6 Maryland Beats Evansville

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland's nationally ranked offense scored four times and the sixth ranked Terrapins limited the University of Evansville to one shot Friday night in a 4-0 men's soccer victory over the Purple Aces.

Maryland has won four in a row, and is 11-3-0 overall.  The Aces are now 7-6-1, with four of the losses coming to teams ranked in the nation's top 16.  Freshman Phil Boerger started for only the second time in goal for UE, replacing the injured Alec Dufty.

Casey Townsend opened the scoring at 17:05 with his ninth goal of the season following a scramble in front of the net, and Jeremy Hall put the Terps up 2-0 at 29:58 with a rebound shot.  Townsend scored again at 54:43 with a shot to the far post, and Hall finished off the scoring with a header at 75:20.  Maryland has outscored its opponents 33-15.

"Maryland is a very good team; they'll compete for the national championship," said Evansville coach Mike Jacobs.  "It was good for our players to compete against that level of competition."

Maryland outshot the Aces 15-1, putting seven shots on goal. The Aces are off until Saturday, October 25, when they play at Eastern Illinois.
