ST. LOUIS -- ESPN notified the Missouri Valley Conference of its selection of the Wichita State at Creighton men’s basketball game for air on ESPN or ESPN2 on Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m. Central, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.
The game will remain as a netflex option for either ESPN or ESPN2 to be determined and confirmed seven-ten days out.
On March 2, #13 Creighton -- 20-4 overall and 9-3 in league action -- plays host to #22 Wichita State -- 19-5 overall and 8-4 in league play -- at CenturyLink Center in downtown Omaha, Nebraska.
Wichita State took the first meeting between the two schools on January 19, when the Shockers edged the Bluejays, 67-64, at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas, in front of a national television audience on ESPN2.
The selection of this telecast for ESPN or ESPN2 marks the sixth time that ESPN has used a “Wildcard” process to determine one of its MVC men’s basketball telecasts. The ESPN or ESPN2 telecast will also be simulcast on ESPN3 -- ESPN’s multi-screen sports network that gives fans a 24/7 destination delivering thousands of live, global sports events annually.
Using the Wildcard Weekend model, the league — through its television partners ESPN, FOX Sports Midwest, FOX College Sports and Comcast SportsNet Chicago — reserves clearance windows for March dates in the fall of each academic year and waits until the midpoint of both the men’s and women’s basketball seasons to determine its final regular-season telecasts for both genders.
The week prior to the March 2 telecast, four Missouri Valley Conference teams will participate in the 11th annual Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters event.
Indiana State will play host to Iona at 10 a.m. Central on ESPNU, while Wichita State will entertain Detroit at 3 p.m. Central on either ESPN or ESPN2. Creighton will play at Saint Mary’s at 5 p.m. Central on either ESPN or ESPN2, while UNI will play host to Denver in a 7 p.m. Central game on ESPN3.
