This week's Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week is Wichita State's Rafael Becker.
Becker recorded his fifth-straight Top 10 finish and the Wichita State University men's golf team placed fifth at the 16-team Boilermaker Invitational. Becker continued his scorching spring. The junior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, shot a 4-under 140 (71-69) over Saturday's first two rounds, then shot a 76 on Monday to settle for fourth place.
The 30th-ranked Shockers placed just behind No. 35 Illinois, No. 21 Kent State, No. 43 Indiana and No. 25 Iowa. Drake and Creighton also competed in the 18-team field. CU was led by Johnny Spellerberg's 85-75-760--236, while Drake's top golfer was Devin Leland at 82-81-77--240.
Three MVC men's teams competed at the Battle at the Warren, contested at the par-71, 7,015-yard Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind. Notre Dame dominated the five-team field, outdistancing second-place Illinois State by 36 strokes in the 36-hole event. ISU was led by a 7th-place individual finish by Parker Freiburg (76-72--148), while Evansville's Griffin Wood also claimed a top-10 showing, tying for ninth place with a 72-77--149. Bradley's top individual was Seth Trolia (80-72--152).
