This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfers of the week are Jordan McLaurin of Missouri State, Kelly Amundrud of Bradley, and Thea Hedemann of Bradley.

MEN'S RECAPS
McLaurin tied for fourth Tuesday (Feb. 21) at the Rice Intercollegiate as the Bears' men's golf team opened its 2012 spring season. McLaurin fashioned a three-under-par 213 in 54 holes at the Westwood Golf Club in Houston, Texas, stringing together rounds of 70-73-70.

As a team, MSU tied for 11th in the 15-team field with 294-304-293--891. Northwestern claimed a four-stroke win, shooting 862 compared to Houston's 866. Florida Gulf Coast was third with 872, followed by Wichita State (874), UTSA (875), Louisiana Tech (876), Louisiana-Monroe (879), Texas State (884), Kansas State (885), New Mexico State (887), the Bears and Winthrop (891), Houston Baptist (897), Air Force (900) and Rice (907). Zachery Fullerton of New Mexico State rallied to win medalist honors, firing 68-74-68--210, three shots ahead of McLaurin. Wichita State was led by Calvin Pearson, who fired a three-round 217, which included a second-round 69. He tied for 10th.

SIU junior Jeffrey Miller posted a hole-in-one on the fourth hole at the Frito Lay/Taco Bell Intercollegiate. Miller used an eight iron to hole out on the 170-yard Par 3. Miller shot a 160 to tie for 30th place individually at the tournament. Jake Erickson led the Salukis as he tied for 21st in the field of 73 players.

Junior Ricky Hearden (75-74-73) led the Redbirds at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, finishing tied for 34th in the 75-man field after posting a six-over-par score of 222. The Mobile Bay Intercollegiate took place at the par-72, 7,160 yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Ala., and featured a competitive field that included Illinois, Middle Tennessee State and Wake Forest. Hearden’s efforts paced the Redbirds to a 12th place finish.

WOMEN'S RECAPS
Bradley freshman Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) shot a school-record, four-under par 68 Monday to help the Braves move into fifth in the final standings at the Lady Moc Classic Tuesday. Hedemann and senior Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) tied for sixth at the par-72 Club at Eaglebrooke to lead the Braves.

Hedemann and Florida Southern’s M.J. Audette shot a tournament-record 68 to close out play, with Hedemann breaking the previous school record of 69 shared by Bari Erais (Nov. 3, 2008), Meaghan LeBlanc (March 16, 2006) and Kelly Dillon (April 19, 1999). Amundrud matched a season-best with a final round 74 and finished in a tie with Hedemann at 225. The pair was six shots behind individual medalist Elia Folch Sola of Seminole State, who finished at 219 after rounds of 74, 74 and 71.

The Missouri State women's golf team opened its 2012 spring season Sunday (Feb. 19) with a 314-328 dual-meet victory at SMU in Dallas, Texas. Senior Kelsey Welber grabbed medalist honors with a four-over-par 76 on the water-logged Gold Course at the Dallas Athletic Club. Teammate Hermine Greyling carded 78 to give the Bears a 1-2 finish.

Junior Christina Beyerl paced Indiana State at the Ann Rhoads Invitational hosted by Birmingham Southern College. The tournament was played under less than ideal conditions with rain and wind plaguing the opening round Sunday and Monday’s final round delayed by frost. The poor conditions on Sunday resulted in Beryl carding an 88 in the opening round but the junior rallied on Monday to card an 81 and tie for 24th.A total of 16 teams and 88 individuals competed in the event held in challenging weather conditions on the 5,809 yard, par-72 course at Oxmoor Valey Golf Course in Birmingham, Ala.
