MVC Announces Golfers of the Week - Oct. 26
This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfers of the week include Hunter Sparks of Wichita State and Katie Jean of Illinois State.
MEN'S RECAPS
Wichita State junior Hunter Sparks turned in a career-best tournament and took medalist honors at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The WSU men's golf team as a whole finished in second place to cap a stellar fall season.
Sparks put together three brilliant rounds and finished with a 54-hole total 199 (-14). His 5-under 66 in Tuesday's final round topped the field as he over took two competitors for the individual title. The Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate finished off an excellent run for the Shockers during the fall schedule. Wichita State finished no worse than third in any of the four competitions and Sparks collected two individual titles. He landed in the top 10 in each tournament.

Four league teams participated in the SIUE Intercollegiate by Doubletree in Edwardsville, Ill., and the Missouri State men's golf team finished second -- best of any league team.
MSU junior Daily Young also finished second in the medalist race to cap an outstanding fall campaign. Young shot 76 to go with Monday's 73-69 to finish with a two-over-par 218, two shots behind champion David Lawrence of Eastern Illinois. Other league performers among the top-10 individual leaders included MSU's Will Hogan (t4th, 222), SIU's Brandon Cauldwell (t6th, 223), Evansville's Michael Sainz (t6th, 223), MSU's Eric Straub (t8th, 224) and SIU's Jake Erickson (t8th, 224).
As a team, the Bears carded 291-298-311--900 in three trips around Sunset Hills Country Club and finished seven shots behind first-place Southern Illinois Edwardsville. Evansville was third with 902, followed by Eastern Illinois (904), Southern Illinois (915), Wright State (918), North Dakota (938), Bradley (943), Nebraska-Omaha (960), South Dakota (961) and Chicago State (1094).

WOMEN'S RECAPS
On the heels of junior Katie Jean's individual ninth place finish, the Illinois State women's golf team secured a ninth place finish of their own in the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate at Oak Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C. Monday afternoon, in their final tournament of the fall. Jean's 6-over-par (222-75-73-74) for the tournament locked in her third top 10 finish of the fall, after finishing in a tie for 4th in the Redbird Invitational and fifth in the Badger Invitational earlier in the season.

The SIU women's golf team wrapped up its fall season with a sixth place finish at the Blue Raider Invitational hosted by Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday. Margaret Gilley led the Salukis overall in a tie for 16th with her 227 overall three round total including an 80 in the final round. It was also her lowest three round total of the fall season.
For the second consecutive day the Bradley women's golf team turned in its lowest round of the season, shooting a 307 to finish eighth at the 34th annual Pat Bradley Invitational Tuesday. Freshman Thea Hedemann Hedemann and senior Erin Gorman tied for team high honors, with both individuals finishing with career-best, 54-hole totals of 230 to pace BU over the three-day event at the par-72 Pelican Preserve Golf & Country Club. Drake also completed its fall schedule at the tournament, as the Bulldogs finished 12th overall. Hadley Jennings was the top scorer for Drake with a three-round 231.
