Illinois State's Bragg Earns Valley Golfer of the Week Honors (Mar. 4)
Wednesday, March 4, 2009

It was a light week in Missouri Valley Conference golf action, as several events were cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions.  This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfer of the week is Kyle Bragg of Illinois State.  Bragg claimed the Redbirds’ lone point against No. 7 Illinois last Saturday after firing a four-over par 7 in the sixth annual Tinervin Cup at the Coral Creek Country Club in Placida, Fla.  Illinois State fell to the Illini, 8-1.

The event, which is a change from traditional stroke scoring, features three two-on-two, head-to-head, better-ball matches in the morning and six individual head-to-head, stroke-based matches in the afternoon. Each separate match is worth one of nine team points.

Bragg and teammate Tommy Bliefnick were teamed up in the morning session, losing 4&5 to Chris Deforest and Luke Gutherie. In the afternoon session, Bragg clipped DeForest (79) to earn the Redbirds only point of the tournament.
