Valley Names Golfers of the Week (Feb. 18)

This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfers of the week are Brad Reierson of Drake and Marci Hill of Illinois State.   Reierson finished third in leading Drake to a second-place team finish, while Hill fired three rounds in the 70s in ISU's first tournament of the spring season.

Men's Highlights
The Drake men's golf team finished second in the 12-team Carlton Oaks Invitational Monday, posting a 36-hole score of 299-300=599.  The Bulldogs finished two strokes behind team champion Western Illinois who totaled 301-295=596.  Sophomore Brad Reierson (Chaska, Minn.) led the Bulldogs by tying for third with a 73-73=146 on the par-70, 6,921 yard Carlton Oaks Country Club layout.

Joe Emerich of Illinois State tallied his second top-10 finish of the year and fourth of his career with a 1-under-par 212 (72-70-70) at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational Monday and Tuesday. He led the team to a fifth-place finish, beating fellow Missouri Valley Conference teams, Wichita State (eighth place) and was low among MVC players.  Ty Sanders of Wichita State tied his career low round score (67) in the opening round and followed with rounds of 69 and 77 on his way to a tournament score of 213 (E), and a tie for ninth place.

The Missouri State men’s golf team finished its first tournament of the 2009 spring season in 10th place with a team total of 897 for 54 holes.  The Rice Intercollegiate presented by Srixon was comprised of 15 teams and was played on the par 72, 7184-yard Westwood Golf Club in Houston, Texas.  Leading the Bears on the final day of the tournament was freshman Jordan McLaurin.  He fired a two-under-par round of 70 to finish in a tie for 13th place with a 54-hole total of 220.

Women's Highlights
Senior Marci Hill of Illinois State [Madison (Edgewood HS) Wisc.] carded a 17-over-par 233 (77-78-78) to finish in a six-way tie for 31st place at the Qdoba Invitational in Miami, Fla.  After two rounds of play Monday, Hill was in a tie for 28th place with an 11-over-par 155 (77-78). On Tuesday’s third and final round, Hill tallied a 6-over-par 78. Hill led the Redbirds to a 10th-place team finish (934) just behind Augusta State (933).

Last week, the Drake women's golf team opened the spring campaign tying for fourth place in the 13- team, rain-abbreviated Braveheart Classic Tuesday (Feb 10) in Beaumont, Calif.  The Bulldogs tied with Cal State-Northridge, posting a 321, 18-hole score. Junior Olivia Lansing led the Bulldogs by tying for 10th overall with a 78 on the par-72, 5,941 yard Oak Valley Country Club.
