For the first time in league history, two Missouri Valley Conference men's golf teams will represent the conference in the NCAA Regionals, beginning May 19. Illinois State earned the league's automatic bid by winning the State Farm MVC Championship, April 25-26. Wichita State earned an at-large bid and will also represent the Valley in post-season competition.
Each regional contains 27 teams and six individuals, of which only 10 teams and two individuals will qualify for the championship finals to be held June 1-4 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland.
It marks the third-straight season the Shockers have earned a post-season tournament berth. The Shockers are the No. 14 seed in the Central Regional. They will play May 19-21 at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. WSU will look to make the final championship round for the second-straight year, having made it past the regionals in each of the past two years.
On the heels of Kristopher Wildenradt’s individual title in the 2005 State Farm-Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, the championship Illinois State Redbird men’s golf team has been assigned to the West Region to play at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., May 19-21.
Wildenradt and fellow all-Missouri Valley Conference selection Matt Maskel, both juniors, led the Redbirds to their fourth Valley men’s golf title in the last seven years. Maskel and senior Kyle Vasel lead the Birds with 74.00 stroke averages.
