2005 State Farm MVC Men's Golf Championship
Illinois State's Kris Wildenradt fired a one-under-par 212 to win medalist honors and help the Redbirds to the team title of the 2005 State Farm MVC Men's Golf Championship, April 25-26, at the TPC Deere Run in Quad Cities, Ill. Wildenradt was joined on the all-conference team by teammate Matt Maskel, who finished fourth with a three-round 221. The Redbirds outdistanced two-time defending champion Wichita State by seven strokes in the team standings (888 to 895). Wildenradt becomes the third Redbird in four years (Adam Goldie, 2002; Brian Anderson, 2004) to win medalist honors, while Illinois State's team title is its fourth in its MVC men's golf history. Coach Ray Kralis was coaching his first conference men's tournament for ISU, after taking over the reigns in December. Kralis is also the women's coach. The team victory automatically qualifies Illinois State for the NCAA Regionals, and those pairings will be announced May 9. All-Conference Team Illinois State, which won the State Farm MVC Women's Championship last week, became the first Valley school to sweep men's and women's golf titles in the same season since Tulsa swept three-straight titles in 1994-95-96. ISU was the only other Valley school to sweep men's and women's titles in the same season (1989).
The TPC at Deere Run, which opened in 2000, was again the site of the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championship. The course was designed by Illinois State alum D.A. Weibring and is also the annual site of the John Deere Classic. It's a 6,813-yard par-71 layout. |
