This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfer of the week is Cameron Bishop of Wichita State.
MEN'S RECAP
The Wichita State men’s golf team finished the Barona Collegiate Cup in San Diego, Cali., in second place. The Shockers posted a 844 (277-278-289) and were only four strokes behind the tournament champion, Univ. of Alabama at Birmingham. Senior Cameron Bishop led WSU and tied for fourth. He shot a 209 (67-71-71).
Creighton junior John Sutko led the Jays at the Oral Roberts University Invitational. Sutko finished in second place in a field that included 66 golfers and 12 teams. MVC schools Missouri State (top finisher was Matt Sullivan, tied for third with a 215), Southern Illinois (Andy Rauscher - 217) and Illinois State (Matt Miller - 216) also competed in the event, held at the par-72, 6,893 yard Indian Springs Country Club in Broken Arrow, Okla. Sutko fired an opening round score of 72, before posting a one-under-par score of 71 in each of his last two rounds. Sutko's 54-hole total of 214 was only three strokes off the lead.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Led by Crissy Higgins and Danille Wolter, the University of Evansville closed out its fall season by finishing ninth Tuesday in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate Women's Golf Tournament at Clarksville Country Club. Higgins and Wolter each shot 165 for the 36 holes to finish in a tie for 17th place. Helen Cuffe also broke the top 50, shooting 174 to finish 48th.
Sophomore Braidy Hood led the Salukis, shooting a 233 (77-78-78) to finish tied for 23rd. After finishing day one of the Kent Youel Invitational in 13th place, the Salukis shot a 306 as a team in the final round to move up two spots, finishing in 11th place. The University of San Francisco edged host-team Hawai'i to take home the tournament title with a team total of 905.
