Pre-championship favorite Illinois State (941) won its league-record ninth title, and first since 2005, with an 11-shot victory over defending champion Southern Illinois (952). The Redbirds, who had four players in the top-11, are led by first-year coach Darby Sligh, who earned Coach of the Year honors.  The 2008 State Farm MVC Women's Golf Championship was Sunday-Tuesday, April 13-15, at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, Neb.

Tuesday (April 15) Recap -- Rounding out the team scoring was Northern Iowa (963), Bradley (968), Drake (969), Missouri State (973), Creighton (998), Wichita State (1005), Evansville (1011) and Indiana State (1018).  Drake sophomore Olivia Lansing won medalist honors, firing a final-round 77 for a 54-hole total of 227. She edged UNI's Molly Schemm (230) for the individual title. Lansing and Schemm were the event's only players to break 80 all three rounds.   For the third straight day, the day's events featured a hole-in-one. Indiana State's Diana Price aced her final hole of the day, the par-3 ninth hole that measured 180 yards. Price used a 7-wood for her ace. 

Monday (April 14) Recap -- Pre-meet favorite Illinois State shot a 305 for a two-day total of 616. The Redbirds own a one-shot lead over defending champion Southern Illinois heading into Tuesday's final round. Drake and UNI (631) are tied for third. Missouri State (639) and Bradley (640) are fifth and sixth, respectively, while host Creighton and Wichita State are tied for seventh with a 653 total. Evansville (662) and Indiana State (678) round out the field.  Individually, Illinois State's Tiffany Hockensmith fired the best score of the event with a second-round 72. Her 149 total puts her one shot ahead of Olivia Lansing from Drake. SIU's Kelly Gerlach, the 2004 co-champ, is in third, two shots off the lead.  For the second straight day, there was a hole-in-one. Bradley's Bari Erais aced the 12th hole, which measures 165 yards. She used a five-iron for her first career hole-in-one. 

Sunday (April 13) Recap -- A pair of Salukis are tied for individual honors after the first 18 holes of the tournament as Kelly Gerlach and Kate Laegeler each fired a 75 (+4) on Sunday.  Four players shot a 76, including Northern Iowa teammates Molly Schemm and Ann Amason; Evansville's Crissy Higgins; and Wichita State's Krista Hrdlicka.  Southern Illinois leads the field after firing a team score of 310.   Pre-championship favorite Illinois State is a stroke back (311), while Northern Iowa is third at 314.  Drake (316) and Missouri State (317) are close behind.  Three teams (Creighton, Evansville, Wichita State) are tied for sixth at 331, while Bradley (332) and Indiana State (341) are ninth and 10th.   Drake's Elena Vukmir aced the par-3, 165-yard 4th hole at Oak Hills Country Club. Vukmir used a 3-wood.

2007 Review -- Bradley sophomore Bari Erais gave the Braves the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Golf individual champion for the third consecutive year, but Southern Illinois fired a school-record and final-round 290 to win the 2007 team championship Tuesday afternoon at WeaverRidge Golf Club.  The team title was SIU's first since 2000.

Carts:  Spectator carts will be available for use on a first come, first served basis at the rate of $20.00 / day

Format:  Individual stroke play – team competition.  Players will play 54 holes for the medalist competition.  The team score for the 54-hole competition will be comprised of the best four of six scores for each 18-hole round from each team.  The final score is determined by totaling each daily round.

Pairings:  Pairings on the first day shall be determined by the pre-championship coaches’ poll with the number six golfers on the lowest scoring teams teeing off first; not more than one player per school per threesome where possible. Pairings for subsequent rounds shall be based on the results of the previous round, with the highest scoring teams and individuals teeing off first.  Play will begin at 10:00 am on all days of competition.
