Wednesday, June 09, 2010

A total of 15 Missouri Valley Conference student-athletes had their names called at the annual Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft this week.  Indiana State's Jake Petricka was the top pick for the league in the second round at 63rd overall by the Chicago White Sox.

Missouri State, Wichita State and Southern Illinois each had three players drafted, followed by Indiana State and Creighton with two apiece.  Bradley and Illinois State each had one player selected.

Professional clubs must sign drafted players by August 15 or the rights to that player are lost and they can reenter the draft in 2011.  Underclassmen have the option to return to their respective schools.
