The field for the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship is set for next week's event at Tyler Field - Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kan., hosted by Wichita State University. Preseason favorite Wichita State shared regular-season Valley title honors with Illinois State, both finishing 15-6 in league play - it was the Redbirds first-ever share of the MVC regular-season crown. The Shockers have earned the tournament's top seed, winning the tiebreaker over Illinois State after a 2-1 victory in the Shockers-Redbirds head-to-head series earlier this season. The Shockers will enter the tournament on the heels of a four-game winning streak after taking all four non-conference matchups last weekend against Oral Roberts and Dallas Baptist. Wichita State will open play against No. 8 Missouri State at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25.
After its best-ever regular-season finish in program history, Illinois State is the tournament's No. 2 seed entering next week's championship. The Redbirds will face seventh-seeded Bradley in their opening game, beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
Indiana State and Southern Illinois both finished league play at 10-10, and the Sycamores will earn the No. 3 seed in next week's championship after holding the tiebreaker edge of the Salukis. Third-seeded Indiana State will take on No. 6 Creighton in the tournament's opening game at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. No. 4 Southern Illinois will open play at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon against fifth-seeded Evansville.
