No. 6 GEORGIA TECH 13, MISSOURI STATE 0
ATLANTA, Ga. - Missouri State's baseball team struggled Sunday in the final game of its three-game series at No. 6 Georgia Tech, dropping a 13-0 decision to the Yellow Jackets at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta.
Georgia Tech got solo homers to lead off the second (Chase Burnette) and fourth innings (Jay Dantzler) and another from Matt Skole with one out in the fifth that began a four-run outburst for the Yellow Jackets.
Dantzler's two-out RBI single in the fifth ended Pat Doyle's day after the senior struck out a career-best seven and brought Blake Barber in from the bullpen. Jacob Esch followed with an RBI single and an error on a pickoff attempt allowed another GT run to score to increase the MSU deficit to 6-0.
GT catcher Cole Leonida belted a grand slam in the seventh and Jason Garofalo hit a three-run double in eighth to account for Tech's last seven runs.
The Bears stranded runners in scoring position in the second, fourth and sixth innings. Keenen Maddox worked his way to third with one out in the ninth but stayed there when GT closer Kevin Jacob fanned the final two MSU hitters.
Aaron Conway extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the sixth, while Tyler Ryun reached base three times in a 2-for-3 afternoon.
MSU pitchers struck out 13 Yellow Jackets in the game with Doyle accounting for seven, Barber one, Sean Toler three and Clay Murphy two. Tech starter Jed Bradley fanned 12 over six innings for the win.
Missouri State stays on the road next week with a trip to Texas-Arlington for a three-game set. Friday's first pitch against the Mavericks is set for 3 p.m.
