ST. LOUIS -- Twelve league softball players have been named to the 2009 MVC Scholar-Athlete First team, including four repeat selections, as voted on by the conference's softball sports information directors the league office announced today. Indiana State's Meredith Simpson earned her third first team honor, making her the 16th player in league history to win MVC Scholar-Athlete first team honors in each of her years of eligibility. Simpson was joined on the first team by repeat selections Tara Oltman - the only unanimous selection - and Jessica Wakasugi of Creighton and Jen Larsen of UNI.

MVC Tournament champion Bradley is represented by senior Alycia Bachkora, while Drake's Brynne Dordel and Bridget Shields, Illinois State's Casey Gorrell, Indiana State's Katie Armour and Darcy Wood and Southern Illinois' Katie McNamara and Katie Schmidt round out the first team.

Eight of the 12 first team spots are held by graduating seniors and four schools - Creighton, Drake and Southern Illinois - each placed two players on the list, while Indiana State placed a league-best three players on the first team.

Impressively, Southern Illinois has earned at least two MVC Scholar-Athlete first team selections for 12-consecutive seasons.

In all, seven conference schools are represented on the first team.
