MVC Announces 2009 Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team

 Four repeat selections highlight the 2009 MVC Men’s Scholar-Athlete First Team, announced by the league office today.  A total of six student-athletes earned first-team scholar-athlete honors, and one earned honorable-mention status.

 Matt Hunsaker of Evansville; Blake Driskell and Todd Obergoenner of Southern Illinois; and Bradley's Zach Wanken are all repeat selections to the league's scholar-athlete unit.  The quartet is joined on the first team by Bradley's Cody Thompson and Wichita State's Grady Pauls.  Hunsaker, Obergoenner, Thompson and Wanken were each unanimous selections.

 Tyler Johnson of UNI received honorable mention selection, by virtue of receiving a minimum number of votes.  Golf sports information directors in the conference voted for the award.

#2008 first-team scholar-athlete selection

   The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic ESPN the Magazine All-America voting.  Nominees must have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions, and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team’s rounds or played at the State Farm MVC Championship.

 Wichita State won the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship, April 27-28, at Cape Girardeau, Mo.
